Default V1 or Escort 8500?Is V1 Worth the Extra $150?

I know it's been beaten, but once and for all...
Is the V1 worth the extra money? If they were the same price I'd probably go with the V1, but I'd rather save myself 150 if the performance difference is minor..
Don't mean to start a war here.. I know people are happy with both.

BUT...???

Thanks,
Jp

Do a search -- this has been beaten to death way too many times. V1 owners love their detectors, Passport 8500 owners love their detectors. I haven't seen anything convincing that either one is superior.

IMHO, save the money and get the Passport. A lot of guys seem to buy a V1 because it is more expensive, not because they have any solid reason to believe it performs better.

I agree with Tanq....we used both detectors on our trip this weekend (Tanq with the 8500 and me with the V1) and they both did superbly.....I personally got the V1 for the directional indicators...i have a little more secure feeling with knowing the direction that the radar is coming from, that way I'm not looking around constantly for the cop and can focus in the direction that it is coming from...also helps with the bogey counter to tell you in your neighborhood if a cop is hiding near someplace with a burglar alarm or automatic doors..

IMHO it was worth the little extra money for those two options...
But if you don't want those things either one works great as a general detector..

Based on what these fellas have said in another post, I went with the Passport recently. I didn't save as much as what you're talking about due to the difference in shipping costs to Canada and the stupid UPS brokerage fee. However, I still went with it to save a few bucks.

The 8500 tracks up 7 different bogies (2 K, 2 Ka, 3 X) and give you strength indications for all of them at the same time. While we were in Springerville, the detector was tracking 2 Ka's and a K while those cops were following us.

Where can you get the 8500 for $250? For that price, I'd buy one for the S2000 and keep the V1 in the S4 as it's already wired in w/ the remote display.

Tanq, my new Passport 8500 tracks 8 signals - 2 Ka, 2 K, 4 X and two laser - front and rear.

My 8500 picked up everything on the trip this weekend as both Tanq and Doc described. I do wish it had the directional arrows as I found myself asking Doc (v1) which direction the signal was coming from every so often, especially when it was getting dark.

But the 8500 worked well, it picked up the signal at about the same distance as the V1 and I feel it gives more information on what you are picking up versus just the direction. The expert mode on the 8500 evens out against the directional arrows. At one point we were tracking 3-4 police officers at once. Eager, AZ cops lived up the town's name

I was able to get my 8500 for $199 through my company discount and the $200 difference for the V1 was not worth it to me.
