From what I understand, the older harness can be used but I'm not smart enough to explain the details.
Anyhow, I talked to Pascal at Frog Engine Controls who already makes and distributes the original harness for the VAFC-I but wanted to know if they have the harness ready for the new VAFC-2. Like some people, I wanted the ability to restore the car to stock if needed.
They were in the process of acquiring the VAFC-2 but wanted to get the wiring diagrams and a sample of the pigtail that comes with the unit for evaluation. Well, after sending them the stuff that they needed, I'm proud to announce that I have the first harness from them for the VAFC-2. The quality of workmanship is great as you'll see from the following images.
I'll be posting pics of the installation soon. Now all that's needed is a way to mount the VAFC-2 display unit to the radio door.
Would you mind posting a close-up pic of the other connector, similar to your last pic? I don't remember if it came from Frog or not, but the last harness I saw had the wires merely pushed onto the pins (the black shrinkwrapped portions) and not soldered, so all it took was a gentle pull and the harness turned to crap. You may want to try tugging at a few and see if they come loose.
