Very cool fiberglass box using THREE JL 6w3's
I wanted to share some initial pictures....cost to duplicate is "If you gotta ask you can't afford it" whew
Idea was to originally build a triangular plate for triple JL 6w3's but of course flat wouldn't clear so each sub is built on it's on flat surface and then tiled to allow the huge magnets to clear. Then the other tricky part is to still clear the trunk hinge. All said and done the box only weighs about 8 lbs with fiberglass, MDF and Dynamat.
Mathematically (x3) 6" cone surface areas is slightly larger than a single 10" so it should be louder but we won't know til we fire it up. This is most certainly not the most cost-effective setup but sometimes to be different you can't factor in money. A single 10w6 costs $300 while each 6w3 sells for about $150 each so I have $450 in subs plus 20 hours of labor
EDIT: 6/25/10
No longer going to use the Alpine PDX 600.1 amp as two amps takes up too much space - we swapped in a JL HD900/5 amplifier to run the whole system. The 4 front channels are bridged to two channels to drive the Focals up front. The last channel feeds 500 watts mono to the triple 6w3's running 2.66 ohm impedance.
Sound is amazing and the woofers are literally pounding, this is so much better than expected and it easily delivers more bass than the single 10w6 box I had in my Rio s2000. This costs a lot more but the "cool" factor is priceless!
Keep in these 6" woofers is what people normally use for front DOOR SPEAKERS
Enjoy,
rick

The subs are all 8 ohms so three of them in parallel equals 1.33 ohm so I'm going to use a Alpine 600.1 mono amp to run the speakers.
^ yes sir you are right - I was using 4 ohm drivers til I realized the impedance is too low for the Alpine PDX 1.600 mono amp.
Returning the 4 ohm drivers for 8 ohm versions to get the 2.66 like you said

and I'm curious to see how this turns out. the box shown with cutouts for the drivers - does it sit in the toolwell with the drivers facing "up and out"? does it fit entirely within the toolwell, or how high does it extend out?

^ Absolutely NOT in the tool well - I hate boxes that sit in the tool well since that's taking the chicken way out not to mention you're SOL if you ever get a flat and need a place to put the damaged rim/tire.
(Honda actually designed the tub to house the damaged wheel/tire if you have to put on the spare)
The subwoofer setup will sit in the left rear corner just like my last 10w6 custom fiberglass box. It is angled to fire forward into the cabin and I remove the rear plastic tub undertray so bass flows nicely into the cabin top up or down
