What is this?
Ok...the old owner at one point had an Alpine deck of some sort in the car. I now have an Apline 9833 in the car...when I installed it, in January...lol...I found this and took it out. I have no idea what it does, but if it is some sort of DCI or something that would be awesome. It consists of a harness, a 3amp fuse for the power, and a bunch of open wires. Anyway, here are some pictures of it. If anybody knows, that would be cool. Thanks

Ahh, ok...I was thinking that might be it. Like the almost supercharger like sound that speakers may omit. Ya, I don't have that, so...I guess I'll just put this back in a box. Or actually I know a Mustang guy with a 9835 HU...he has a whine real bad, makes his car sound like an 03 Cobra from the inside!
kinda cool...but would this work for him possibly?

I have seen those on other stock Alpine harnesses. If your friend with the "muff-stain" has an Alpine and is getting whine, it is probably introduced further down the line.
Basically, that box filters the input voltage to prevent the alternator whine from getting into the HU. Of course, if you have interference on an RCA, or into the Amp or even into the speaker wires from the amp to the speakers you can still get whine.

and to the guy above, ya, I did notice much better throtle response before I installed my new headunit, along with the fact that my rev limiter didn't kick in till 11,000 RPMS and my gear ratios (even after RPM increase)were longer. 1st gear went to 64, 2nd to 90, 3rd to 114...It was fast, but I kind of like the shorter gearing better and feel safer with it not reving SOO high

Electromagnetic interference filter, ostensibly to filter out whine.
Did it work? Must not have been hooked up.
