What is the best location for an aftermarket tweeter?
So I will replace the factory coaxials in my 00' S with a set of components. I have searched regarding where to mount the tweeters and there seems to be no ideal location. Everything seems to have some compromise or complication. Where did you mount them and why?
Overall there seems to be two general areas people mount the tweeters, either in the doors or on the dash/pillars. First off, I am not interested in complicated wiring so the dash is out. I want to mount the crossover inside the door and keep all of the wiring there.
So the real question is where on the door? I want them flush mounted for a clean look. I have it narrowed to two locations.
In front of the door lock/handle. This location has a clean look and is the same on both sides. The phasing is better. However I am concerned the placement is not much better than the factory coaxial. I would also be concerned it would be firing into someones leg, killing the sound.
High on the door panel like 02'+. This was my first choice initially because it raises the separation and sound stage which is the whole point. A couple of things concern me, the passenger side tweeter would fire directly at my head. Also the curve of the door panel might make a clean, flat install difficult. On the drivers side the tweeter will fire across the dash, but I also wonder if there is enough depth to flush mount the tweeter there.

MY00, mine are high on the door like an 02+; however, I suspect location closer to the woofer would sound better if they will fit. There's plenty of room up top where the OEM tweeters are.

I just put mine kinda beside the stock woofers on the really flat section on the door panel. It was the easiest place to flush mount cleanly without having to deal with any curved surfaces. I'm not an audiophile so I'm sure I wouldn't be able to tell if they are "staged" correctly or whatever. I know my new speakers sound 8 million times better than the potatoes that were in there.
heres my setup if it helps https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/473...t__p__22057880 , the mids come pretty close to my knees but ive never had an issue bumping into the speaker.
Interesting...
That's a lot more system then I was planning. Clearly the best location is probably on the dash or pillars. I am not willing to go through the hassle of wiring them there. So they will be on the door.
Should they be high up like OEM?
Should they be down by the door handle?

Should they be high up like OEM?
- Higher imaging
- Better separation
- Maybe too bright
- Angled differently left to right
- Tough install on passenger side
Should they be down by the door handle?
- Better phasing
- Flat, easy install
- Same angle on both sides
- Too low, blocked by leg
