What do you guys think?
I love the Q-series! I haven't purchased them myself, however that said, I would in a heartbeat. My wife and I will be purchasing a Landrover later this year,... well we hope to and the system will include these speakers.
As for an amp... I would look at
Alpine MRV-F545
Alphasonik PMA640HCA
Phoenix Gold Xenon X200.4
However there are others as well... and I'm sure my pals here will add on to this list.
Q's love the right amount of power, to little and they sound lagging and to much... well you'll be buying a new set sooner than later

They are fantastic speakers........BUT, they are NOT for everyone. I love them because they are BRIGHT as hell. Phil hates them because they are bright as hell. Depends on your ear.
For $1000, I hope they provide multiple orgasms through various sexual favors. They are available online for mid $400s.
The counterpart of the Q series, for those that dont like the brightness, would be the Focal Utopias. Give them both a listen, and see what you like best.

I have an older set of these (the lowest end Q). I think they are great. I've had them for quite awhile and I still like them. They are bright, but I cut the treble on my Alpine HU -2 with a 17.5 mid and I think they sound just about right.

Q-Series MB Quartz 6" Mid-Speakers
with two tweeters for $1,000.00
Also, what amplifier would you recommend for these?

Coloration:
Bright and deep; very cold. High highs are accenuated by the tweeters and the QSDs go down to a clean 35hz (you must Dynamat Xtreme the door panels or take the deep bass away with the crossovers).
Amps:
I run a PPI PCX-2125 which is an ultra clean amp with tons of power (125 watts RMS x 2 @ 4 ohms). In this case, that is not ideal. If I did it again I would look for a warmer amp along the lines of Audison, ARC, TRU, etc. The PPI (and Soundstream Van Gogh and Tarantula) is just as clincally precise as the speakers and your music will sound digital and cold with them. As Dave said above, Phil (who likes warm "British" sound), would dislike the QSDs even more with the really clean, cold amps.
Price:
I paid $622 in July of 2003. Now the same store has them for $595 (http://www.discountjungle.net/mbquqs62qsds.html). $400 sounds to me like scammer territory (that is, triple-check the seller and deal). DiscountJungle that I linked to is my favorite online shop and is 5-star rated on Yahoo! Shopping.
Headunit:
The sound is only as good as the source being played. I have an Eclipse CD 8053 and highly recommend it with these speakers. If you're feeling ambitious the CD 8053 has a 25-band parametric EQ that will let you perfectly attenuate the highs and balance the system. Expect to spend at least a full afternoon adjusting the 75 settings though. (The regular EQ is excellent as well -- that's what I use).
Conclusion:
These speakers are not for everyone, especially in the S2000. But if they're to your tastes you will be astonished by how great these speakers really are. I've now heard most every top-end loudspeaker installed in the S2000 and the QSDs are by far my favorite. Add in some high quality bass and you will have a system that rivals most any home system. Ignore the people that question spending this much money in a convertible. At 95 mph top down the sound in your car will probably still better than the systems they claim to have at home.
Edit: As far as power goes, look for 100 watts rms - 150 watts rms @ 4 ohms. I run 125 watts, which is plenty to bring the speakers to life and not enough to ever damage the drivers. Consider that many high end factory systems that sound great run about 300 watts to eight channels and 250 watts RMS to two channels doesn't seem all that low anymore

Also, plan for an Optima Yellow Top battery with your install. They run about $110 and are essentially mandatory with this much power in an S2000.

Dave, how well you know me.
imo, for any MB Quart i've ever heard (including the Q's), i'd rather listen to my kids bang metal spoons on my pot lids.

too bright for me. DEFINITELY listen to anything... ANYTHING before you buy it.
When you first get them they'll be the sonic equivalent of someone stabbing your eardrumbs with lasers. They are so bright that is literally painful to listen to them.

i have found in some tests, that alpine amps have peaks in their response. around 1khz to be exact. i dont know how you like your amps, but i like them as flat as possible.
MB quart is in an unstable position right now. as some of you may know, rockford owned the USA part of MB quart. a few months ago, a company called third acoustics bought the rights to MB from the german government. MB will offer a whole new line of equipment sometime next year or so. as far as the USA part of MB, it is unsure if Rockford will still have rights to it. Rockford says they do, but who knows.
My Focal rep, recently told me that al n ed's bought almost all of the MB stock at rockford corp. if its true, i dont know, but my rep doesnt lie. so... there is the story that i know. straight out of mobile electronics magazine.

Metal tweeters are bright, if the right metal tweeters are tuned right, that can sound sweet and detailed as hell. but of course, all metal tweeters get fatiguing. your probably asking what is fatiguing.
ever heard a pair of speakers where you thought it sounded really good. then later on, you cant take it anymore. thats called fatiguing.
I used to be a Focal fan, then it got fatiguing. But i do miss the details. the detail on Focal tweeters are awesome. cymbal crashes are honestly the most realistic on the audiom TLR. ahh, i need another car so i can have some Focal's.
