Default What does everything think of the Napster/Samsung YP-910GS MP3 player ?

I've wanted an MP3 player which could hold a good amount of songs and one that could be listened to in the car w/o taking out the stock head unit. I saw an ad for this in a magazine and now I'm really interested in this product. It's got 20GB of built-in memory (5,000 songs) with an FM transmitter - this means I could tune into a certain frequency on the head unit and have the MP3 music piped into the car's speakers from the MP3 player. From my understanding, FM reception by nature isn't superb since radio waves contain some noise from interference and distance but since the player and head unit will basically be 2 inches from each other and the signal should be strong, would the sound quality be decent? It probably won't be CD quality but would the sound quality be OK? If the S2000 had a tape deck, I would probably use one of those cassettes with a wire that plugs into the headphone jack of the player. The Apple IPod is an alternative MP3 player but it doesn't have an FM transmitter, therefore I wouldn't be able to use it in the car. Any thoughts?

I have an Ipod and an Irock FM transmitter ($29) that works just like you described.

Get the player you really want. Don't just buy it for that FM feature.

the true limitation on FM transmitted quality is more related to the frequency range of the FM receiver/transmitter.

from the IROCK site: Frequency response: 50 Hz to 15 kHz
http://www.myirock.com/players/irock400fm.asp
considering hi-fi (high fidelity) is generally 20hz to 20,000hz, 50 to 15k is piss poor.

considering a nice tape deck will get you 20 to 19k and the average tape deck will get you 30 to 17k... cassette adapters usually provided something on the order of a mediocre cassette playback (30 to 17k), but i can't find anywhere to verify that... i looked, but can't find a reference.

so, would the tape adapter be all that better? probably not. is the FM going to sound terrible? no. is it going to sound alright? yeah, but not better than that.

the BEST way to do it would be via this route:

best of luck.
