Default What harness does the S2000 use? And, amp placement question.

I had read here that the radio used the Metra 70-1720 and 71-1720 harnesses (I'm wanting to connect to the factory head and the factory vehicle harness). I picked one of each up yesterday at a local car audio place and planned to do my install today. After six hours of work, I've got two sets of RCA in place, the amp and all connections in place, speaker wire from the amp and most everything else. Basically I only need the harnesses to connect to the line level converter and to figure out a way to secure the sub.

So, does anyone know what harness model would actually pair up to the factory connections in my 2001 S2000?

Also, it seems that several people mentioned mounting amps to the left of the spare over what appears to be the gas tank. When I removed the panels, I notice that there is a wire of somekind sticking up right in the middle of this location. What is that wire? Will it hurt anything to put the amp on top of this connection?

TIA!

I used a harness for a '98 Accord and it works perfectly. The cd player actually came out of that car when I sold it, and as a fluke I tried plugging it in and sure enough that was the right harness.

Ok, so I'm an idiot... thanks Rick. Evidently the harness model numbers should be 70-1721 and 71-1721... which isn't what I bought. Hopefully the guy at the shop can just swap 'em.

Now, anyone know about that wire above the gas tank??

I didn't mount the amp in that location but I believe you are talking about the sensor that measures the amount of fuel in the tank. You can't move this so you will have to put your amp next to it.

you only need the 70-1721 harness. That is the female connection. The other one is a replacement for the plug that you already have. It is the male that plugs into the factory radio. We only use that one in the case of theft where the harness has been cut. You won

Oh, ok. Yeah, I see what you are saying. Have you considered using a splice tap connector. We have some that snap over the wire and then you can plug an insulated male terminal into the hinge part of them leaving the whole connection tight and insulated. If you don

The Metra pair 70-1721 and 71-1721 will let you get in and out of the radio harness fully reversible.

However, the pair above is not specific for the S2000 and does not have two wires the S2000 harness needs. It lacks the mute wire and the "other four" dash controls wire.

There is an easy workaround. You can move unused rear speaker wires on the harness to the right spots for the mute and "other four" dash controls. Here's a place to look:

Macgyver's page has the pinouts.

To move a wire, insert a paper clip in the "notch" where the retaining plastic is, pull hard, clean out the broken plastic, and insert the wire in the right spot.
