Yeah, that would be great...or maybe a photobook of different installs where people say a little bit about themselves and the music they listen to...as well as pictures of what they bought based on their taste

I think a separate forum for "In Car Entertainment Systems" would be a good idea. To some of us "Electronics" means more than decibels.

You having a bad day Darkknight?
No. I'm honestly sick of the same stupid questions over and over and over again... if people would take a few minutes to do some research for themselves then they would learn from the last thread that ask the exact same question.

You can not, or at least shouldn't, buy speakers based on someone elses idea of what sounds good. You NEED to listen to them, plan and simple. If there's no store near you then maybe you'll need to drive farther than 20 minutes to take a listen to something nice. I sorry but that's not my fault. If I want to listen to Alpine F1 status level speakers then I need to drive over and hour just to get to the shop.

People need to do research for themselves and find out what kind of sound there looking for. Coming here and asking the same question that someone else asked 3 days before is just annoying.

It's a good starting point though. Some speakers simply aren't locally available in parts of the country--or even in this country at all...and if you tell informed people local what sort of music you like and what local brands sound good to you, they can probably recommend something even better.

For example, I bet I can predict (within a tolerance of +/- 0.5 utils) that someone who likes Boston Acoustics speakers will like Dynaudio speakers even more.

And only crazy people do things like drive to Lynnwood, WA (Adire), Iowa Park, TX (GR Research), and freakin' British Columbia (Creative Sound) just to hear those less available speakers in person...Crazy people like myself

The other problem for people with little or no knowledge of audio is that speakers in the store's soundboards are NOT going to sound the same in their car. I installed car stereos for almost ten years, every car sounds different. Furthermore, when asked to choose between two pairs of speakers, people will invariably choose the louder pair.

Fortunately over time I was able to grasp how different speakers were going to sound in most popular cars and could make useful recommendations based on the type of music people liked to listen to.

The only way to really know what a speaker will sound like in your car is to hear the setup you want in the exact car that you own. Hell, the stereo in my S2000 sounds like crap with the top up- I bought "bright" coaxes to try to overcome the extra noise when the top is down. Well, it works great until I raise the top. Then I'm swithching to ESPN radio to save my ear drums.

I'm not blaming you for the fact that I don't live anywhere near any retailers that sell the products that I'm interested in. For me, it's not just driving farther than 20 minutes. Before Best Buy started carrying Alpine, I had a 2 hour drive just to look at their headunits or speakers. So for me, it's not "wah wah wah, I just don't want to drive", in fact, it's just the opposite, I love to drive, especially the S and I wouldn't mind driving a few hours to listen to what I'm interested in, but finding a place that carries such stuff is difficult. Even if I did find someone that carries the brand I want, the model I am interested in is usually not carried in stock or in the sound board because no one else buys the stuff.

And I agree with you entirely on your last point. The Search feature needs to be used for such basic questions, and some of the more common questions have been answered in the FAQs at the top of the page.

Of course, without all these posts this forum would be almost dead.

I'm honestly surprised that nobody has requested sound clips of speaker setups like they do in under the hood for exhaust setups. I've seen an old post or two but nothing recent. I bet that would cause darkknight to have a stroke.

Noob:
"Hey darkknight can you post sound clips of some good sounding Focals, and don't take too long or give me any BS, Thanks"

Darkknight1999:
You idiot....

UGHhhh....

AaaaACK...

Crap, that don't feel right...
