Bob! Where are you? Never received a response from my emails, where are ya hiding? I'm going to buy a Kenwood wired DCI but I need to know 2 things before I bite the bullet! Will it work with a Kenwood BT838U, and I also need a shipping quote to Canada.

Sorry, 200 emails in the last week but none from from anyone named Eric, unless you're trying to sell me Canadian drugs or lengthen my ...

Shipping to Canada for a DCI & harness:

Most Canadian customers use First Class for light-weight items. It's cheap, usually arrives in 6-10 days, and we have only lost one package to Canada in 4 years.

First Class Mail (the new name for Air Mail) delivery in 6-10 days, no tracking, optional insurance is extra - $4
Priority Mail, delivery in 5-10 days, no tracking, optional insurance is extra - $17
Express Mail, delivery in 2-6 days, with tracking number and insurance included - $24

To pay the shipping, go to http://www.modifry.com/products/intl_ship.htm and follow the instructions to place your order and to add the shipping charges to the shopping cart. Please note that insurance is provided for Express Mail but is optional, for a small additional charge, for First Class and Priority Mail. Uninsured packages will NOT be replaced or refunded if they are lost or damaged. About 2% of non-U.S. orders "get lost" in shipment so we encourage the use of Express Mail or the addition of insurance to First Class or Priority Mail.

You don't need me to determine if it's compatible, just do a little work on your own. I found this in 10 seconds, following the suggestions on my web page:
Crutchfield "Hands on Research". Scroll down to the "steering wheel compatible" section.

Sweet, thanks a lot bob! Placing my order now. I'll contact you via S2KI since email seems to be a little unstable. Thanks for the in-depth reply! My deck just came in today and all I need now is the DCI!

EDIT: Just placed my order. Bob, if you really do need to lengthen, you know who to call

Does the Modifry wired DCI come with a t-tap connector and extra long wire for the SCV?

Unless you're buying the Alpine PnP harness, all DCIs come with an 18" wire harness. So the gray SCV wire in the harness is the same length and not long enough to reach - you'll have to extend it with your own wire and connectors. Or, you buy the SCV kit that's made for the PnP harness, remove the 18" gray wire from the DCI harness and replace it with the 5' one in the kit.

The standard PnP harness (only for Alpine HU right now) comes with no SCV wire at all. There is an option for an SCV kit ($3) that includes a wire long enough to reach the VSS connection behind the passenger dash. The kit has a 5' long wire, pre-terminated with the necessary connectors on both ends, and one of those nice 3M T-taps that installs on the VSS wire with an ordinary pair of pliers. You insert the SCV wire into the empty hole in the DCI harness, run it to the passenger dash, and plug the quick-connect on the other end into the 3M T-tap that you just put on the VSS wire.

So to review, the SCV kit comes with the wire and all connectors needed to wire up the SCV feature. Without it, you'll have to do some wiring on your own and provide your own connectors. It can be used on both the PnP harness and the regular DCI harness, though on the regular harness you will have to remove the original (short) gray wire before inserting the longer wire in the kit.

I hope that makes sense.

I think it makes sense. I purchased the wired Pioneer DCI without the PnP harness as my stock harness had already been cut by the previous owner of the car (for a PAC unit that didn't work great).

Is it possible to splice a longer gray 20 guage wire to the 18" gray wire included with the DCI using a plastic crimping cap before going to the white/black striped wire?

Think Radioshack will have the 3M T-tabs?

I didn't even see the SCV wiring kit when ordering.

Also, thanks for supporting this community. I purchased a universal steering wheel control box from Best Buy thinking it would work correctly. That was wishful thinking as two of the dash buttons didn't work and the others were really slow. Returned that product and already purchased your more superior control unit (for $15 less after shipping!!!).
