Default Who's going to install XM radio receivers?

I just put in an Alpine CDA 7977, MB Quarts and a JL Amp. The 7977 is XM radio ready for the roll-out (although I would have to add the XM receiver.)

Having Direct TV at home, I love the satellite music channels. Having it in my car seems cool too. Anyone else considering this?

Either I live too far back in the woods, or XM isn't being marketed very well. I had never heard of it until I opened this thread. Now that I have heard of it, my initial thought is "free radio vs. pay radio => free radio". Maybe I don't understand enough about what it is, but right off I don't see an advantage over listening to my local stations.

You pay for better sound quality and no commercials, much like you'd get on Digital Cable or DirecTV. XM and SDDS (I think) are two competing companies both rolling out service this year. I think I saw $8-10/month somewhere?

Zeke,

I am interested in moving to xm band and have been waiting for some headunits to be released.

Regarding the antenna, my local shop mentioned that a second one would be required. Have you looked into that issue?

Are you saying that the headunit you installed does not have xm band but is upgradable with a receiver you would mount in the trunk?

That's exactly it. It says "XM Ready" on it, and once XM rolls out, I need to buy an "antenna" unit. I have no idea about price, etc., but allegedly the antenna is pretty cheap and is a 10-15 minute install.

10-15 minutes for the antenna, 2 hours to fish the wire to your head unit

Is the music edited like normal radio? Would the FCC Allow it to not be?

Good question. My digital cable (TV), which is similar, was unedited. The rap station got out of hand sometimes. Since you are paying for it, I think it would be treated like HBO - they can leave it how the artist recorded it. The FCC really only moniters public stations that are freely broadcast over the airwaves.

I may be wrong on this, but I think you can get all the 4 letter words you want
