Why do head units come with remote controls?
#1 if you have the remote in an accesible area you don't have to necessarily 'lean' to do it...I've found the action of hitting a remote button (if its a good remote and I know where the buttons are) much less distracting then reaching to screw with the buttons...thats just me though
#2 It provides an IR interface which I believe the DCI available from Lucid can interface with
#3 Passengers can change your stations for you!
Thats what I can come up with...hope it helps!

the biggest reason headunits now come w/ IR remotes is due to the 'coolness' factor.
quite a while back, only high end heads came with remotes, because those were the heads that usually were used by car audio 'crank it up' competitors (now known more often as SPL competitions). at these competitions, they had to have IR remotes as volume levels went up and up, and it began to be dangerous to sit in the car... and so the remote could be used for adjustments and starting playback...
so, with that being the benchmark for 'cool', cheaper models started to show up with them in order to meet the need for image, and as it got cheaper and cheaper to get really loud, entry level competitors actually needed them...
now, they've just become sort of an accepted and expected feature.
about the only time i use mine is when i'm washing the car... i keep the remote in my pocket to make adjustments (track up and down, mute, volume up and down) while the car is all closed up and wet.
i'm just thankful for one so i can use the DCI.

The DJ Qube mod replaces your stock audio controls on your dash so that they will work with your after market HU. The large mode button is modified into a joystick type switch that adds additional control functions.
My DJ Qube controller was shipped yesterday, and I can't wait to get it installed! If you have an aftermarket HU and want excellent audio controls on your dash, this is a definite must have mod! DJ Qube is a member on this site, and his service is excellent!!!!!!

I almost did the DJ Qube thing. I really liked the joystick, but I didn;t get the logistics worked out in time for my install, so I went for the Lucid Sony DCI. The DCI is cool because it hardwires, no IR involved. As it turns out I am glad I didn't do the DJ Cube because Sony made some functions available on the remote ONLY. The prime example is radio station presets. You CANNOT set your presets without the remote.
