Wire and Amp question
Firstly thanks a lot for all the previous help. I have just put in my hu,speakers- front and rear, dci, and radar detector. So far so good. My last task is to put in the amp.
I just got my 4 guage wiring kit from KnuKoncept. The 4 guage power wire is supposed to be crimped or soldered onto the terminal. I can't solder so I am hoping to crimp it on. I just tried with horrible results. Is there a tool/technique I should be using. They have included a snap bushing grommet with the ring terminal. How do I use it?
Also I just bought a JL2150 2 channel amp. Will this be enough to push my polk db6500s effectively?

I have never tried to crimp 4 gauge. I have always used solder or set screw type. Here is a link to something similar to what I am using now. Just another easy alternative you can probably find locally at a car stereo shop.

With wiring that large, you will really need to get some torque. I (or rather my friend) took the little sleeve adapter and set some wire crimps (wiring tool...similar to plyers), and positioned the wire between the tool, and closed it in a screw vice. Took a TON of pressure, but if finally was good and solid.
I agree, though, if you have the soldering stuff available, its usually better and just as fast / easy. It can be done without it, though.

For that size of terminal, there is a proper crimp tool and it is a little different than the smaller sizes. The crimp it makes is hexagonal. I always crimp and then solder when I do it. Your option if you can't solder or crimp is to buy the set screw type.
Yeah, that was more of an improvisional type thing.
I did not have the proper tools, so I went MacGyver on it. And this vice was not a standard hand-held vice.....its was mounted to the work bench, and was about 8" long. Massively powerful.
I just did not want to wait, and it worked.

Actually I ended up drilling a hole in the terminal and putting in a screw. Works ok.
Now I am putting in new speaker wire-God help me.
My hands are already raw and bloody and I still haven't got one in yet...

Use a hanger and some WD-40 (or KY) to lube it up, then PULL through the grommet, Dont push it, or you will be at it all day.
