would this work for a sub enclusure?
so i installed a blaupunkt thb 200a sub in my car (8 inch powered setup) and it sounds nice, but ive noticed that it bottoms out a bit on the lower frequencies. im considering returning it for a 10 and a 4 channel amp setup, but im curious on my options to mount it. im kinda thinking of the possibility ot just cutting a peice of 3/4 MDF to the same shape as the tool tray lid, ya know, that little plastic peice in the trunk that covers the tools, and mounting the sub in that. the tool tray and tools have been removed/relocated.
would this setup work pretty well, or will i need a full box?
thanks

yeah, ive decided against that doing it that way. ill either build my own (the right way), or get a wedge box that will fit in the hole.
on another note, ive found a JL 10w3v-4 here locally for 139.00. ill probably pick it up over the weekend.
im not certain what amp im going to use for it. i was thinking something along the lines of an alpine f300, but it only puts out about 150rms with 2 channel's bridged. how would this sub perform with that wattage?
thanks,
james

so after a bit of thought and actual planning, ive decided to go with the alpine mrp-m500 amp. mono 500 watts at 2 ohms, with a JL 10w3v3-2.
as of now, and i havent even measured one bit, im planning on building a box that fits in the tool well, AND the spare tire hole. this way, i can bump all i want and be able to change/carry a flat tire. doing it this way will be a bit tough, cause the spare tire hole isnt really that big. like i said, i havent measured yet.
im curious to know though, if it matters if the sub is in the middle of the enclosure or not. the way it looks in my head, is that the sub will most likely be in the lower right corner of the box, if you were looking at it from the back of the car with the box sitting in the tool well.
another question: JL recommends 0.625 cubic feet of air space in a sealed box for this sub. i was told by a crutchfield tech that as long as i get within 20%, it should be ok. is that really true? what are the side affects of using a box thats a bit too small? What if the box is a bit too big?
also, the same tech said i could use poly fill to "trick" the sub into thinking its in a bigger box. is that true as well?
thanks alot for the help guys!
