WTF. Can't get OEM key fobs to program
Hi all.
I just bought a used Honda Certified 2005 S2K. It didn't come with any key fobs, so I figured I'd just buy the standard key fobs online and program them. I followed these instructions:
programming instructions
The system never went into programming mode. I had both doors and the trunk closed.
For completeness, the part number for my remotes was 08E61-S01-100. The box says "Civic 4D", but the part number matches what HondaParts says it should be for an '05 S2K. Oh, and -NO- there's not a box underneath my passenger seat. I'm pretty sure my car doesn't have the Honda alarm system, therefore I'm -assuming- these are the correct remotes.
Noting that it was already conspicuous that my car didn't come with remotes, I did some hunting around and noticed that was an LED on top of my steering wheel column that my friend's S2000 doesn't have. I figured, WTF, so I removed the steering wheel column cover. Much to my surprise, I found out that the wires for the LED were clean cut, and went no where. (see pic). So, then I look underneath the steering wheel to see if the other ends of the wires were down there. I didn't find them, but I did find two spade plugs connected to nothing. WTF again.
So, it could all be a big coincidence that my brand new remotes don't work and these wires are sitting around. I don't know a thing about car alarms, but it seems like another possibility is that Honda (or the previous owner) removed some third party alarm system in a way that's making my keyless entry not work. Am I off base here? If so, what to do? Is this the kind of thing Honda should be covering under warranty for a certified used car? Do I need to find an alarm dealer and have them inspect it and "properly" remove anything foreign that might be there? Connect those spade jacks to something and try again?
Thanks for any help. I'm baffled.

The correct P/N for a stock fob is 72147-S2A-A01. The S2000 uses an exclusive frequency (305.15 MHz) from any other Honda/Acura vehicle so a similar looking fob from an Accord/Civic/etc. will NOT work. I'd recommend getting the correct fob and retry the programming before worrying too much.
That being said from your pictures, it looks like there is/was a 3rd party alarm installed in the car. I'd try following the aftermarket wiring and search for the alarm brain (if its still there). You could then work on removing all traces of the aftermarket alarm.

In case it helps anyone else, ordering the part number schmittx recommended fixed the problem.
One more thing maybe someone knows. When I lock and unlock my car, there are no noises whatsoever (beeping, etc.) to indicate it is locked. Is that normal for the S2K?
