Hi guys!

I am planning to buy myself a s2000 in the US and import it to Sweden where I live. Unfortunately there are some differences between the Swedish s2000s and the US models which is problem.

What I am discussing is an 2004-2006 AP2.

To get the car certified in Sweden some things have to be changed, and i was hoping that you could give me some more information here.

1. Turn lights
Turn lights must be orange in color and exist in front, rear and on the sides. Is this true for a US AP2?

2. Positioning lights (i am not sure this is the correct term)
The light that can be turned on when you are for instance parked on a bad spot so other cars notice you. I think this light is orange in the US, am I right?. This light must be white or yellow in Sweden so the question is if it is a single lightbulb just for this function so I can easily change it, or how does it work?

3. Xenon headlights
In Sweden all xenon headlights must have active horizontal control in order to keep the headlights from shining in other drivers eyes if you load the car heavily. I understand that this does not exist in the US. This will probably be pretty expensive to fix, so the question is if the headlights temporarily can be switched to normal lightbulb lights? Would this be possible?

I don't know much about xenon lights, do they have a transformer to get higher voltage or how do they work? Would it be possible to get a normal 12V lightbulb (H4?) to work in the headlights? does anyone have any pictures on the lights both from the front and back, with connections?

4. Headlight washers
S2000s in Sweden have head light washers, now I guess that this is quiet easy to fix, but can you tell me some more where the pump for the windshield washers is located and if you think it would be possible to use this pump also to flush the headlights?

I would very much appreciate if you could give me some input on these questions.

Well, taken one at a time,

1) Turn signals should be ok. You would have to check.
2) Parking lights are yellow in the US. This would require surgury to change. Cost $500
3) Xenon headlights. Cannot be switched. To modify would be $2500 if you retrofitted from a Swedish S2000
4) Headlight washers are easy, and would be $250 at most.

Cost to ship a car to Sweden. About $6000.

When you add it all up, it seems like it would be cheaper to just buy one in Sweden.

1. Ok, turn signals are ok, glad to hear that.

2. Is the parking light one single lightbulb, or is it the same light as the turn signal?

3. Are you sure nothing can be done, I'm an mechanical engineer and I'm not scared even to make electronics to make it work, I just need to know the basic functions of the xenon system. There are several companies that take in s2000 from the US and somehow they fix something with the xenon headlights to get them through the checkup. Unfortunately they wont tell me what they do.

How does the connection from on the backside of the headlights look? Is it just a 12V connection to the xenon "unit"? If that is the case, I would be able to build something with a normal halogen light?

Shipping a car to Sweden is actually only $1750 and the used price for a 2006 S2000 is about $43000 so it is still cheaper (even when the 35% customs charges are added)

Does anyone have any experience with the function of s2000 xenon lights? For instance the different electrical connections? Is there a circuit schematics somewhere that I can look at?

2) its a seperate bulb, there is no cost except maybe 5 bucks

3) ive been doing hid/projectors retros for years and what your going to have to do is either purchase a projector that already has a leveling motor such as an infinity fx35 or porshe projector and retro it into the s2k projector. there is no room inside the casing to fit a leveler and motor to do that. the connection from the back of the headlights is a projector, then the bulb, then the wire from the bulb runs to a ballast, the ballast then runs to the actual headlight wires which run to a relay. you can build something with a halogen light but the output will be horrible.

you will have to contact a company that imports s2000's. im positive that even the EDM s2000's dont have levelers in the projector. so im not sure what kind of "mod" they do to the headlight. keep in mind the projector shield does have a pretty heavy cutoff to accomodate the oncoming traffic.

the way the hid works is that you have a regular 12v source to the ballast or "transformer" that will convert your DC power to AC power and powers the hid bulb. the hid bulb is a D2S base and that is the only bulb that will fit into the projector. you could ghetto rig an h4 bulb into the projector, but the output is worse than a traditional halogen reflector and youll have to but the wiring.

4) again 250 is probably the max and one of the easier mods to do.

I only need non HID or the leveling function for the first registration check, I doubt that they will notice on the normal safety check every year. I "ghetto rig" might do it =).

 

Did you get you S2000 imported? I am thinking of doing the same with my S2000 CR that I purchased couple of weeks ago.... thanks in advance.
