2002 tunning options
just got a 2002 and have some questions. I am new to these engines and have been reading as much as I can. I came from a 92 LT-1 corvette and the only tuning I am familiar with was doing data logging via Datamaster program on a laptop then sending file to a guy who would burn a new chip to plug into my EPU. I read the AP1 motors need a different or standalone system as opposed to the AP2. Do the AP1 computers use a chip like my 92 corvette that can be switched with a new program? I would really like to lower my VTEC without spending a small fortune on a stand alone system not to mention I am 50 and not as computer savvy as you younger guys. I guess what I am asking is what are my options? Thanks.

There is no "chip" to replace in the OEM ecu. It needs complete replacement.
Likely the most affordable solution would be Ballade's Doctronic ProECU-S2K.
Cheaper than AEM Infinity, just works with all the stock sensors.

If you don't want to go fully standalone a piggyback ecu is the best solution, look for a Greddy Emanage Ultimate or Apexi NEO cheaper.
If you're only looking to lower vtec and touching up the fuel these are more than enough.

No you wont pass emissions test with an AEM EMS.
You got Hondata Kpro which is the most proven so far but also most expensive.
Doctronics which is kind of a knock off kpro ecu, kind of unproven so far but seems like it could be a good choice.
MS3 from Reverant, really powerful and nice looking ecu which you can read more about a couple of topics down in this forum.
