Monitoring AFRs via wideband is good enough
10.71%
Along with the wideband, have just one EGT meter and probe at least connected to the leanest cylinder
17.86%
Along with the wideband, run 4 EGT meters and probes for each cylinder
35.71%
Other (explain in forum)
10.71%
Do not run a wideband or an EGT for tuning because Ebay sells a chip you can install that does it all for you and gives you 500 more hp

Default 4 seperate probes and egt meters for each cylinder for tuning?

Is it common to set up an exhaust gas temperature (EGT) meter and a probe for EACH seperate cylinder in order to get a pricise tune?

In fact, if you just monitor AFRs, is it even worth it?

I am boosted near 600whp currently on a mase kit, and i'm running hondata flashpro as my ecu and I have an AEM UEGO wideband.
My new, possible tuner (who supposebly has over 15 years of reputable experience) says he wants me to get them for when he tunes the car after hes came across issues with my exhaust valves being burnt, etc. that hes fixing.

I've never heard of this being a common or needed thing, especially if im getting wideband readings, so I just want to make sure my money would be well spent.

Have any of you heard of tuners monitoring all four cylinders with seperate egt meters for tuning eventhough the car already has wideband and flashpro ems?

PLEASE GIVE YOUR INPUT thanks!

That is better and gives more info than just having the wideband, but "is it necessary?" probably not

EGT gauge is a wonderful tool if you are actually watching it but I don't think it's really necessary. I say, have a wideband in the car, tune the car on a dyno with safe timing, and run the car. If your timing was tuned properly via the dyno, I don't see the need for an EGT besides another monitoring device, "just in case".

U can't go wrong having more information telling u whats going on in the motor. If funds allow go for it.

Basically each of us goes as far as we feel is necessary to achieve our goal. With all this power ur gonna have don't get insulted but I'd recommend driver mod. 600whp in a sub 3k lb car is no joke.

I already know it needs a driver mod. It's no secret that everyone knows I'm the biggest noob on s2ki with this much power lol but I take care of my car to the point I know how, and the more I learn, the steadier I push it.

But let me explain to you what's going on.. Because of the mase kit being a manifold of unequal length for each exhaust cylinder, it appears some of my exhaust cylinders are getting way more breathing passage than others. In cylinder 1, for example, after we took it apart, there was barely any black residue in it while cylinders 2 and 4 had clumps of it. This is the reason the guy at the shop wants to monitor each cylinder with an egt, but this will obviously be a lot of money that I dont want to spend unless I can't find another way around what my be causing the unequal exhaust flow. This seems to coincide with the problem of my burnt exhaust valves....

i would suggest it but just know that you cannot get those sensors to communicate with the flashpro. the flashpro does let you adjust igintion timing per cylinder which is nice. so you keep an eye on the gauge while tuning and adjust the calibration as needed.

now if you were running the aem ems, then yes you could use those sensors to enable egt compensation tables.

I dont like having 4 probes take up 1/2 the space in the exhaust all the time... usually if I have that option i'll use them on the dyno and maybe one track session then take them out and leave 1 in the hottest cylinder. If the probes are large they can cost you a bit of power.
