Anyone running Hondata basic?
I'm torn between full-on tune:
1).header
2). test-pipe
3).flash-pro
4).dyno-tune
or just get geared..4.44....and add to this the
Hondata basic tune program($295.) for completely
stock S which would only lower VTEC window to 5200
and raise limit to 8500.
This would obviously help regain top end gear-speed I
would've lost do to the gears.
Just wondering if anyone has this program?
like?
dislikes?
thx
I think you need to do some more research. Gears are a totally separate topic, and has nothing to do with engine performance. If you get a test pipe and FlashPro, you can get very good results by just loading the canned "Toda" calibration.
What are you referring to as a "program"?

what hondata basic?
if you're talking about the hondata s200 system. ..its not for the s2000.
the only ecu offering hondata has for the s2000 is the flashpro for 06+ s2000's.
and the k-pro.
neither of which is anywhere near $295

what you've read just a little bit better.
I just mentioned gears as option #2....option
#1 was full-on tune with header..test pipe..dyno
tune..flash pro..
and option #2 was the aforementioned gears with the
Hondata basic $295. all "stock" flash.
steelers743(go raiders
) you are right sir..and thanks for your advice...do you really think the
performance difference will really be worth the $695?
I'm just looking to offset the smaller gears(4.44) by accessing
VTEC window early(5200) and extending window to 8500.
And you have to figure in my case..I would have to pay
a tuner to set all the options the Hondata program offers!

You just need to slow down a bit sir and comprehend

After having 4.77's on my '02 AP1, and having a good FlashPro tune on my '08 AP2, I believe the gears should be a totally separate consideration entirely. You should get a FlashPro no matter what along with a test pipe or HFC so that you can get significant midrange gains by lowering VTEC. The stock reflash just lowers VTEC to 5500 RPMs, so there isn't that much of a performance improvement. The stock header and exhaust is very good, and huge gains can be made by simply replacing the stock catalytic converter. You can get gains by lowering VTEC all the way down to 3500 RPMs if the stock cat is replaced with a 63mm TP.

topics regarding NA performance with you....it would
be me bringing a knife and you bringing an AK-47
Thanks for your input...I know you've stated before you were geared
and now seem anti-gearing...but as I remember you were considering
gearing again and going with a 3.90(might be wrong).
For what you do..autox or other tracking..with your improved
NA HP(over stock) you know what you need from your gearing.
Please keep in mind....my car is a DD and I will never do any
kind of tracking or autox...I just want a reliable DD that doesnt
have to be launched at 3500 to keep up with pain-in-the-ass
jeeps...mini-vans..big pick-ups..etc. from stoplight to stoplight.
I'm just looking to improve 0-50 and not have to rev above 6200
to get a boost of power...so I think the gears would help this.
I'm never in danger of "running out of gear" on the street and if
that did become a problem I felt I could always get the Hondata
ecu flash to raise redline to 8500(thereby increasing gear speed).
With that said...I am interested in the FlashPro..dyno tune with
TP or HFC with header as I would have stock max torque at 3500
and stock max HP at 6500.
I just worry though about the TP noise?...exhaust fumes?...and about
possible reducing the driveability of the OEM S.
As you can see....I need to research more

I'm not "anti-gearing", but I do get irritated at people who go around suggesting gears as the best thing since sliced bread to everyone without any mention of the signficant tradeoffs associated with them. Every application is different, and I would agree that if you do a lot of surface street driving with limitted highway cruising, then lower gears are nice. However, the percentage change from a 4.44 gear swap is so small that you probably wouldn't notice it after a couple days.
The change you would get from a test pipe or HFC plus a FlashPro tune is MUCH more signficant, and will always be noticeable. Having 20 extra ft-lbs of torque at 4K RPMs really changes the experience of the car a lot.

your's and other's opinions 'cause you've had gears and had/have
NA performance mods.
Bottom line...I love the OEM car but just need something more
"low-end" and I've talked to tuners who claim they can get me
30 more HP/ 30 more lb. ft. along with smoothing
out VTEC into a broader application of power through the revs.
I like the sound of this but I fear taking away the OEM easy
driveability of this car.
I just need to read more about how changng the TP and getting a HFC
will affect the car.
thanks again!
A well tuned S2000 is much easier to drive. Since I have so much more torque with a 3500 RPM VTEC engagement, I rarely go above 6K. You also don't have to downshift nearly as often. With lower gears, you have to shift more.
