Default Buying a 0 Mile engine.. what do I need??

Hello all!

Long story short, I have a MY02 with 154k on it. Had an oil leak and I neglected to notice it. Ran low and starting knocking really bad. Took the valve cover off and did a 'redneck' test on the pistons and rods. Measured the difference from dead top and dead bottom... my 2,3, and 4 move around 1/4 inch... my 1 moves a little over an inch. So with the amount of miles on it, Im going to purchase a new engine.

Im wondering, other than a water pump, clutch, flywheel... what should i also replace? I want to get a Billman TCT if still available. I was told to just plane down the flywheel, but i found a 8.5lb for around 300. Yeah or Nah?

If any of this seems dumb or wrong, please inform me.

What do you need? You need to tell us where in the world you found a 0 mile, brand new engine Those are pretty much non-existant. Honda does not sell new engines for the S2k. Used ones run around $3k and some more than that.

Same question applies. Our engines are rarely rebuildable although I'm sure there are some new blocks sitting in hidden secret storage somewhere. Used engine is really the only realistic choice.

Yes it would be a good idea to understand how and who rebuilt the block, or if it was rebuilt at all. Chances are the new motor won't last if the block was "rebuilt". However this is not based on my experience, I am just restating what I have read time and time again on this forum.

I have changed my route to have a shop buy a used jdm spec motor/transmission/ecu combo for less than the Refurb one. Coming out of one that caught fire on the ass end of the vehicle. 34k miles, got parted out last week. Got lucky I suppose. Hope it was taken care of. So, from here... the mechanic and I talked and he suggested that the water pump, tct and chain, and the clutch should be replaced during this process. Going to go with the OEM clutch kit + ACT plate. Billman TCT if I can. I will also be deleting unneccesary items under the hood as well, and repainting it. What else should be checked or replaced while the engine and trans are out of it?

Water pump and chain can wait IMO. Chain really shouldn't need to be replaced especially with just 34k miles. Water pump also should not fail with that mileage and if for some reason it does go out early, it's not tied to the timing and can be easily replaced.

For the clutch replace the throwout bearing as well.
