Which calibration to choose before tune?

Default Which calibration to choose before tune?

ok well heres the thing i just installed my fipk, hytech header and tic 70mm single and was curious to know which calibration i should be running before i go and get my tune. which is at the end of may.. i was told by a few to use the toda header calibraition but wanted to get some opinons. and now im not gonna be hard on the car till after my tune just to be safe but was just curious to know what calibration to use for now. thanks

They will all require work so I would say stock since it has the most knock sensitivity dialed in as well as lower timing.

I believe there is no difference between the stock tune and Toda tune in the knock tables, and the difference in timing is about 1 degree. The main difference is with the fuel tables, since the stock map runs EXTREMELY lean. I ran the stock tune for about 10 miles just to capture a datalog, and I was frightened by what I saw. At full throttle, AFR shot up to stoich at 6200 RPMs, and the AFR Corr value was in the high 13's and low 14's the rest of the time. My datalogs also showd that the knock count went straight to 100 as soon as it started.

Honestly, I think it is foolishness to run the car on the stock tune with your mods. If you can't get it tuned sooner, maybe just let it sit in the garage.

well like i talked to you earlier im on the toda calibration and did datalog and yes it was a lil lean would u like to take a look at my datalog? my tuner said yes it was a lil lean as well but not to dangerous to drive...

I thought that the tuned profile adjusted the knock map back some. Yup, the stock map always shows a ton of knock till it learns the fuel. This is how they intended it and if that is what they consider normal and we have cars rolling over 200k miles then it must be ok right?

The best thing to do is stay off of wide open throttle. However, if you want to get tuned sooner, check out the link in my sig and email me elitetuning@aol.com as I can tune your car over the web (I email you calibrations+specific driving instructions and you email me datalogs) and at your convenience.

I wouldn't mind looking at your datalogs, but as long as your long term fuel trims are small and you aren't getting any knock counts, then you are probably safer on the toda calibration than the stock calibration. If you are worred about it, then you can just subtract 2-3 degrees of timing from the toda calibration, and call it good. The main danger IMHO is that the stock tune runs so friggin' lean.

I just verified that the "Stock Equivalent" and "Toda" maps provided by Hondata have identical knock control tables. I also verified that my datalogs of each show the same amount of knock retard on the low cam.

I've never heard of any '06+ S2000's with 200K miles. The AP1's aren't tuned nearly as agressively from the factory as the AP2's, so they don't face the same danger as an DBW AP2 with I/H/E on the stock tune.
