Default New tuning solution for 06-09 AP2's

Posting this for anyone planning on buying FlashPro in the near future and might be interested in having heads up on upcoming competition. When Hondata recently dropped the prices of its KPro offerings, it was in direct response to the impending release of the new KTuner product that is coming soon.

This product is being developed by HRTuning. If you are familiar with the B series tuning solution "NepTune", then you should know what type of quality and features to expect from this product. Although the initial release will be focused on K series, the S2000 offerings shouldn't be too far behind.

Information here: http://ktuner.com/

Although 00-05's seem to be left out in the initial release, I have no doubt that at some point a cost-effective solution will be available for those cars.

If you're planning to purchase FlashPro but aren't in a big hurry, this is worth keeping your eyes on.

and just an FYI, don't hold your breath for any affordable tuning solution for the 00-05 models. you can't modifiy the stock ecu's on those cars. k-tuner for the k-series is going to be based off the 05-06 rsx type-s ecu. the only way i see them getting it work the same way hondata was able to get the 02-04 rsx type-s ecu to work would be to do the same exact modifications. you have to switch out those reluctor sensors to hall effect sensors which is what the k-series uses.

it's going to cost a lot. a standalone ecu will still be your best bet for 00-05 models.

I'm not familiar with that company at all, and there really isn't much info on that site. What advantages might their product have over Hondata's products? The DIY developer kit is really the only thing that looks particularly interesting.

i'm not sure what the initial release will offer but as good as k-pro/flashpro is it could be better. i would like to see them implement closed loop o2 control with aftermarket widebands. they have been doing it for years with s300. i don't see why they cannot implement it on k-pro/flashpro.

another thing i would like to see is support for a fuel composition sensor. they offer it for s300. why not offer it for k-pro/flashpro? it would be a great feature because it would allow those who don't live near e85 stations to use pump gas and not have to worry about swapping calibrations or a batch of e85 that doesn't contain the same amount of ethanol as it did when the car was originally tuned.

the kpro 3 has eight additional inputs. the fuel composition sensors output a 0-20 volt signal. you should be able to use the zeitronix kit to convert the signal to 0-5 volt and use it with kpro.

There are a ton of features that s300 has that KPro/FlashPro don't. I've asked (repeatedly) for some of them and their reply most of the time is "there probably isn't enough room on the ECU"...whatever that means. How in the world do 20+ year old ECU's have enough memory for features that ECU's less than half their age don't?

i don't know. i spoke to doug in person at PRI and i brought up a few features i would like to see on k-pro and flashpro and he said he would look into it. the fact that hr tuning stepped up to the plate is a good thing. it's going to force both to work hard and introduce other features to make their product stand out.

I've always been curious as to why an Ap2 06+ ECU can not be modified to work with an 00-05? Would give the benefits of flash pro without all the tinkering needed with Kpro. I have been a fairly happy KPRO user but their refusal to implement a working wideband option has been disappointing.

I have recently installed the AEM Failsafe and we are making it activate a failsafe when AFR levels go outside the specified range. Spoke with one tuner who said that Hondata could make the 00-05 Kpro compatable with the failsafe by coding one pin to accept the failsafe kill signal and do a rev cut similar to OEM style, but they refuse to because they are lazy or just stupid? I have no knowledge myself but hell, it worked with the K series so why not now....

This product should be good. I have been a Neptune dealer for a long time now and it has every bit as much potential as hondata s300 except for the newly released add ons.
