Default Stock ecu tuning

Hey guys I'm pretty new to owning an s2k or a honda for that matter, but I'm wanting to know if anyone knows who can tune factory ecu's? Or do you have to have some sort of piggy back system/stand alone ecu?

Year and future mods might help someone answer the question. Also where you live so people can recommend a shop in your area.

As on 03 owner your stock ECU is not tunable, so you will need either a piggyback controller or a standalone.

Question.

How do Mugen, Spoon, J's, etc. modify OEM ECUs? Obviously a tuned chip has been installed but how did they access the maps? Did they "break the code" so to speak or did Honda provide them with this info due to working relationships?

^I believe they sell entire ECU units with their respective tunes. Example: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=747268

I understand that! My question is how do they program the computer?

OBD1 ECUs can be socketed and new chips installed. Very common.

There use to be a tuner in Canada that socketed OBD2A B-series ECUs. The drawback was that the chips were rare and quite expensive. Since every change required a new chip to be burned, few people wanted to do it. All the JDM S2000 ECUs may use this technology. I don't know..which is why I'm asking.

I've never read about anyone modifying a non-flashable OBD2B ECUs. Why is that? Can it not be socketed? Are chips not available? I would think that there are enough 00-05 owners that would be interested in such a product.
