VTEC control with Infinity

http://aemelectronics.com/?q=forum/i...gy-explanation

Interesting read, what is the take on this subject from the pros here? Coincidentally, I too have busted a rocker arm...

That was me that made the post there. The infinity vtec control is a little bit different to their previous ecu's.... and different to many other ECU's as I pointed out in that thread.

Wasn't very satisfied with AEM's response there. Was hoping they'd be more open to refining the control strategy.

Well that was a disappointing thread to read. Not sure why AEM thinks it's an acceptable solution.

Looks like itll be Vtec TPS off below 0 and cruise on freeway in Vtec or leave engagement similar to stock

That is unless I'm missing something

What is everyone's thoughts about doing something like this:

Seems like there might be something there but I could be a total idiot

The highside output controlling the VTEC solenoid is fully configurable. For the time being (until this is addressed in a future firmware update), setting the highside output table to look like this will remedy any concerns over cycling VTEC at high RPM. As shown, the highside output will turn on whenever VTEC conditions are met OR engine speed is greater than 6000 RPM (you can set this to any RPM). The highside output will then stay on until VTEC conditions are not met AND engine speed is less than 6000 RPM.

I tried the above solution. It'll work, but it turns the HS Output into a general purpose and doesn't allow the vtec engagement settings to be refined via tps.

Also, the vtec switch will never be set to active. I'm using the second ve table for when vtec is engaged. The vtec on condition will never be triggered so it means you'd be stuck using one ve table only. As soon as the HS table is modified and you go back to the wizard, vtec settings disappear.

Wow this is not what I would expect from an ECU of Infinity's caliber. Interesting read.

Ditto. To make matters worse, it's like pulling teeth to get AEM to do anything about it. They keep saying how the hardware is capable of so much more in the future, yet they can't give us a proper way to control vtec, which other ECU manufacturers have been able to do for literally decades now.

I'd love to hear from guys like VitViper and some of the other tuners that have used Infinity to length.
