what is engine management system?
All modern engines are computer controlled. There are dozens of sensors that monitor things like throttle posision, intake air temperature, intake air pressure, coolant temperature, crank posision, etc. etc. etc., and use those parameters to determine how much fuel needs to be delivered for each cylinder per combustion cycle, and when to make the spark plugs fire. The computer that does this has many names: Engine Management System (EMS), Engine Control Unit (ECU), Central Processing Unit (CPU), and others.
