Default 40 profile vs 45 profile?

not really an FI question, but most of you know more about tires than I do...

I need some new rear tires ASAP..
Currently have Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's.. 245/40/17 in the rear.. all the tire place have that size on back order, but they do have 245/45/17 ready to ship.
Would there be any negative effects from running the 45's? any positive?
My car is supercharged putting down close to 450whp, stock ride height so fitment will not be an issue. Wheels are Rota torques, 17" same size as AP2 V1's IIRC.
any other sizes I should be looking at?

thanks

255/40/17

I run 275/40/18 lol

the 45 profile will throw off your speedo

Pro/con

It will make your gearing longer

Yeah unless you want a heavier tire(more unsprung weight) and a taller gear ratio to boot, I think its a bad move. Go with 255/40 if you need an alternative size.

not after 5-6k rpms... but my tires were already worn from turbo days when I out the SC on, so now I will get a better idea of what they can hold.

Im going to go with 255/40/17.. they have plenty in stock

thanks guys

now just have to decide if I get them from Tirerack or discount tire direct,

anyone have experience with Discount tires replacement guarantee? price is the same, but you can buy protection for $15 per tire,
anything happens to it & they supposedly replace the tire for free, shipping included!

You may want to also post in the tires and wheels subforum.

I don't know how many have ever put 245 or 255/45-17 tires on their "S" but I do have 245/45-17 on the back and I like them. They will raise the back of the car about 1/2" because the 245/45 tire is about 1" taller than the 245/40 series tires. Will your car handle as good with a taller tire no, but it won't kill the handling either. If you can break loose the tires in 1st and 2nd then the taller tire will help with that. A 255/45 tire will raise the car out back about 6/10" and I don't know if that size tire would rub but I can't get my 245/45 tires to rub and I load my car('06) down with over 550 LBS when we travel.

In the past three weeks they have replaced two of my tires with no questions.
