405hp/249tq 928 V-Trim Vortech Setup
Hi Everyone,
Long story short I have owned this car for about 7 years now and 2 years it sat with all of my parts waiting to be installed. After test driving some of the current offers (08 335xi, 08 c6 with z51 package and looking at 08 z4m an a 08 cayman s) nothing felt like the S. Are the other cars better in performance and updated tech....yes but the ones I did test drive didn't give me the same feeling as the S. Basically decided to finish the car off and install all the go fast and accompanying mods sitting around. Had Jeff Evans do the install and the tune the Sat before Easter. Just wanted to wait for the video before posting it on here.
Was shooting for around 450hp but fell short lol. Ended up hitting 405hp and 249lbs of torque at 14psi. Been talking to moddication and I will be doing an overlay of his setup running a 4" pulley to see what I gained with the new impeller. By talking to him he mentioned that my mid-range look to be a lot beefier than his blower running the stock impeller.
Jeff lowered my vtec engagement to 3500k rpms and you can see how nice and linear the my torque is which is what I wanted. I'm seeing about 2-3psi at 3000k rpms as it continues to build up.

Did the rocks in can noise go away with the new ABEC 8 ceramic bearing? I was thinking about swapping my impeller to the 928 impeller but question its reliability because it doesnt appear that the impeller wheel get balanced. I was told that if you send your blower back to Vortech for a trim upgrade they spend time to balance the new impeller. Did 928 motorsports balanced the impeller?
Nice setup, and congrats on the nice numbers! I have a couple of questions; hope you don't mind.
1. Did you drive it around for a while to break in / stretch the belt before the dyno pulls? I usually try to put 150 miles on a new belt before doing any pulls because they stretch.
2. Did the Vortech kit come with the filter stuck right onto the compressor inlet? Or did you do any comparison pulls to see if that helped?
The reason I'm asking is that your torque curve rises a bit slower after 6,500 rpm. So I'm wondering if you might be able to find some gains by tightening the belt and/or putting an intake pipe between the filter and the compressor to allow the airflow to smooth out.

To be honest had it rebuilt before installing for piece of mind. I know the olded sc trims were straight cut gears which makes it louder than the new ones.
I ask Carol about that before sending the blower yes they balance and properly shim the impeller so no rubbing or problems occur. I was going to go through Vortech in the beginning with a sci trim upgrade but no option to upgrade their juke bearings and seals.
With 928 I went with their high end rebuild and you get the upgraded bearings with their twin lip seals to stop oil leaks which vortech is known for with their lowend seals.
Most likely I'll never found out longevity of this rebuild since I only put under 1000 a year if that. Since I dumped a great deal of money into it with the parts and updated interior lighting with Qube as well as more upgrades with JPM Coachworks I will try to take it out more for the weekend.
Took it out this past sat to breakin the clutch further and received a few compliments from people which is nice for a 10 year old car.

Torque Obsessed the belt was already used (with all the extra parts I was picking up forgot to grab a new belt before my tune but it was barely used by previous owner) so it was stretched for the most part.
My kit came with a custom intake setup that was actually chocking me into the 385-390 range. This numbers were achieved by running no filter. I then measured it up for clearance and order a K&N custom filter that would work.
I order a debris screen from 928 but they forgot to pack it so I got refunded since it wouldn't have fitted anyway.

Any chance you could post your boost data log? I've already ordered this impeller, but may reconsider. Great numbers, but they are very close to stock vortech impeller numbers at this boost pressure. I'm sure at higher boost is where this upgrade really shines.
