Default 93 & Water/Methanol vs 117 Octane

Hey guys, just figured I would throw this out there. I was debating on doing Water Meth & a race gas tune but have decided to just do the Water Meth. I would prefer to run C16 all the time but obviously too much $$$$$$$$$$$$. came across this article and thought it was pretty cool, nearly Identical numbers on the Dyno within +/- 1 HP

I've been told a few things.

2 different tuners told me to run meth w/the pump. Then above that, do not use the meth w/leaded gas..they said they don't mix..

I know that wasn't your point, just thought I'd add that.

I'm wondering what is "better/safer" for your motor, instead of what makes the better power.

^ Yeah, I have red about Methanol and its "destructive properties" to metal, however this has yet to really be proved and the amount is so small I can't imagine it eats away at anything. I would love to just run C16 the whole time, not have to worry about the pump failing, but the C16 does not have the Cooling properties that the Water/Methanol combo does.

I still always go back to how it awesome it was to do some WOT runs in the 95F summer weather and lay my hand on the Charge Piping and intake manifold and it being COOL, pretty amazing..............

When it's all said and done, why not just run regular gas for 99% of the driving and when you NEED the power switch over to water / meth. That way you don't always have to worry about something failing and immediatly gernading your motor.

You don't need 500+hp all the time in NJ when 95% of the roads are traffic ridden...that's why god invented boost controllers

For me it's going to be water/meth for my pump tune, and race beyond that.

It gets HOT and muggy here in WV, and I want my car to be consistent as possible, not to mention I'm still on a stock motor, so keeping those temps cool is very important to me.

haha yea thats how I am going to be running. I am not going to push the car to terribly hard on Either Meth or just Pump. I plan on running 15psi with just the Pump and 20psi or so with the Water & Meth

Understanding that anything could fail and toast a motor (injector, fuel pump, etc), I'm just of the mind that I don't want to add to the already complex setup of an aftermarket turbo kit with something that requires so much maintenance and fail safes. Not knocking those who choose to go that route, but it just seems like more trouble than its worth for a motor that can make 'good enough' numbers on straight 93 in stock form.

for what its worth over 50% of motors i've seen fail have been due to failures in water/meth setups.

^ Thats scary, I have semi-looked around but havent seen specific examples on various car forums................any links? I believe you I just want to see what happened to make sure I can do all I can to prevent similar failures. I ordered new nozzles as well as the new AEM upgraded recirculated Pump. I will say I ran over 15,000 miles with it on 24/7 and it sprayed every time it was supposed, and the time it didnt, it let me know something was wrong.
