AEM EMS problem
I'm don't know a whole lot about AEM, but I have some computer background. Have you tried to plug the USB into the different ports available on your laptop? I'm not sure what brand and model of laptop your are using to tune with, but I've personally seen a few HP and Dells USB ports go bad or partially bad where it creates a bad ground or loose connection.
Most people don't notice because they only use it for stuff like mouse, ten key, or their USB memory sticks, so when there's interruption in connection, its only for a split second. Where as connecting to an ECU needs to be constant I would assume.

sorry for the stupid question, but is the comms resistor something in my computer or in the AEM?
I'm not going to be touching the tune, I just wanted to post a screenshot of the timing from when the motor blew. I also want to make sure the EMS is in 100% working order for when I get the car running again to go tune it. I guess I'll call AEM today and see what they say about repair costs.

Is there anyway for you to get another laptop and load the software on and try to connect to it? At least trying this, you will eliminate the possibility that your current laptop's USB port is bad.
I'm an idiot. I called AEM and the tech said it sounded like a ground problem, and to connect the stock ECU to see if it primes. I did so and it didn't prime, so I thought to my self, it has to be a wiring issue.
Then I figured ground, so I looked at the harness and re connected all the grounds, as soon as I did, boom the fuel pump primed. So the serial gauge cable must have been providing the ECU with a ground to turn on. Duhhh. anyway problem solved lol thanks for the suggestions guys!
