I am looking to purchase an AEM Ems and RC 650 injectores. Can someone please enlighten me about the UEGO controller and if its worth it?
Thanks for all the help.

If you already have the EMS, you can purchase the single channel uego controller. If you dont have the EMS yet, you can go with the EMS w/ built in UEGO.....cost slightly more but is built in.

The UEGO controller allows the EMS to read and datalog A/F ratio with the included wide band o2 sensor which is highly recommended for tuning.

With that setup, you can get the AEM serial datastream gauge (IMO a kick ass gauge) to monitor a/f as well as other readings.

The wideband is useless if you have no clue what it is telling you. It is a great tool for your tuner to use. It takes out the error that comes from having the tailpipe sniffer at most shops.

Yep, that's going to be my setup most likely. I already have the AEM EMS 1052U and will be adding the Serial datastream gauge to get rid of all other 3 of my defi gauges. Less clutter for me.

I know this is an ignorant question, but while I certainly understand the concept behind the AEM serial gauge, I've never seen it specifically written exactly what it is capable of displaying and how.

I also don't want a dash full of gauages and am debating moving up the purchase of the EMS just to avoid having to buy $1000 worth of Defi or Blitz gauges but I don't understand how the EMS would know what oil pressure, temp, boost, a/f, etc is unless it is being fed by specific sending units. To my knowledge there is nothing factory that would tell the new EMS (hence the serial gauge) what exact oil pressure is or what temp it is, coolant temp, what level boost is, etc. A/F I can understand - you would install the wideband O2 the same way you would if you bought a regular A/F gauge with that option.

Also, I've seen pictures of the AEM serial gauge - you manually toggle it but how does it change to tell you what exactly you are reading? It looks like their a/f gauge to me.

for water temp, it uses the factory sensor, for boost you can use the MAP sensor (factory or aftermarket), for oil pressure you can buy the sensor kit, for oil temp you can buy the sensor kit.

The gauges come pre-calibrated for use with AEM's own sensors. You need firmware 1.19 to use the AEM serial gauge.

Jano,

The gauge can cycle thru 19 different channels so you can use one gauge to monitor all readings.... or you can daisy chain more gauges if you wish to view different channels at once.

The gauges are customizable thru the EMS software. You can set min/max values for each channel to correspond to the red/yellow/green leds. You can also set values to trigger an alarm (warning gauge).

One of the questions above, and which I have often wondered, is how do you know what signal it is displaying. How, for example do you know it is currently showing oil pressure?

You know what it is displayed by the type of number you are reading or when you toggle through them they say PSI, O21, AIT, H2O, VSS, RPM... All the gauges can also be named what ever you want with a limit of three letters.

Does any one know how to properly calibrate the temp gauges. The preset gauges like air intake temp and coolant temp are incorrect, for example right now on my gauge 215* is realy 190*. I know this because that is when the stock fan switch turns on the fan. Also there is no way that air intake temps can be in the 50-60* range when it is 85* out!

If i get the AEM EMS with UEGO, will it be unnecessary to keep my defi gauges?
