Default AEM fuel pump install

My installer installed an AEM fuel pump in my 2007 AP2.

He used the stock wiring with no relay or anything like that.

Car seems to be running fine until I drive for a couple hours it starts to LEAN out pretty badly.

Just trying to figure it out.

Could it be because of the 320lph am fuel pump on stock wiring?

I read up on some old posts and I think my fueling issue may be from the fact that I need to wire up my fuel pump with thicker wire.

So I can leave a bit of the stock 18gauge wiring that goes into the harness? That way I can splice into it outside of the tank. Will that 12" of 18 gauge still be able to draw the voltage that I need to?

Then run 10 gauge from the battery to the relay. Then 10 gauge into the stock 18 guage to the harness.

does that make sense?

The factory wiring will overheat and cause the fuel pump to lose pressure as you describe. We make this kit to solve this problem (you need part no. enpp-2761):

No...don't do that with the 18ga...that small piece will be the weak link and cause too much resistance and could possibly overheat and start a fire. If you get the SOS kit it has all of the proper connectors and seals to use the OEM plugs. They supply 12ga wiring which is plenty for 20-25amps.

You could run 10ga to the relay if you want then 12ga from the relay to the pump but don't change the fuse value at the battery above the supplied 25amp that comes in the kit. You still need to protect the 12ga piece from the relay to the pump with that fuse at no higher than 25amps. Remember...it's the wire that you are protecting!

Am I going to need an aftermarket FPR when the pump is running at 100%?

I returned my fpr since Evans told me it wouldn't be needed. I'm running a walbro 450 e85 and id2000s. I guess it wouldn't hurt but just going off what I was told.

I would think an adjustable fpr would be needed to rain in the big 450 pump but I suppose the large injectors could help keep the pressure down on the wiring the stock wire is no good replace it all to the pump housing 10-12gauge wire all the way.
