AEM Serial gauge set up help
Ok I am getting close to installing my EMS to replace my emanage. I went ahead and got a serial gauge to go along with it. I searched and could not find any info on being able to read oil temp mainly on which sensor to buy and how it gets connected to the ems. In all I would like to be able to read boost, IAT, coolant temp, and oil temp. From my research the gauge should automatically be able to read everything I want except the oil temp. This is the main thing I need help with. Any help on makeing this work would be appreciated. Oh I will also be going with the sos map sensor so will anything have to be changed with the gauge for it to read boost correctly? Will just putting the right parameters in for the map sensor take care of that problem?
On a side note I have had problems using usb to serial port convertors with my emanage and aem ems. Which one do you guys use? I have gone through three of them without any success. I am never able to get a connection.
Thanks
Martin

You need to buy an RTD from AEM, wire it to one of the four built-in RTD input channels on the EMS, configure that input in the EMS for your RTD's resistance/temp curve, then configure the serial gauge to display that channel and it's alarm points.
USB-to-serial converters can be problematic. Some USB ports (non-powered) are not capable of supplying enough electrical current to operate the converter. Also some applications that run in the background on the PC can grab "ownership" of the resources needed to synthesize the serial port function.

To do this first stir a cup of water full of ice and set that resistance as 32F, then boil some water and record again to get a third point use your ambient thermometer for the ambient resistance. Plot in Excel add an exponential trend line and verify the Chi Squared

dsddcd thanks for the info. Will you be using the sensor from AEM? Is there a way to figure out which sensor it is from GM? I'm sure that it would be a lot cheaper to get it from a GM supplier. This what I did with my mac boost solenoid.
Also where would be the best location for the sensor? I was maybe thinking my sandwhich palate?

The GM part is available at many aftermarket part stores. Here is a good description from Ecklers a Vette specialist.

I read thermocouple not RTD, you must have edited your post to mess me up????????????
Yes the sandwich adapter is a good place or if you have relocated then the filter side of the kit would be fine.

you need the following Bosch sensor 0 281 002 170 it has temp range from -40 to +150 Celsius, and it can be used with AEM EMS's. Connect it to any free ADR-channel send this info it to Serial Gauge and when properly configured You can monitor oil temp.
