Default AFE Gauze filter for Comptech S/C

I don't want to get in a debate over Gauze vs Foam but after looking at several K&N filters with no fitment, I decided to give AFE a shot and found the info here on the boards (thanks to SCHighlander).
I have heard good things about AFE so I purchased it at Sparkplugs.com for $40.00.
I have had great luck with Gauze types in all my engines for years and this looks like a quality piece!

This is the recharge kit

The Old foam Comptech filter

Flange to Flange (identical)

Side by side

Make sure the clamp is at the end of the flange tight against the airbox

It is tight but it fits the filter is huge!

Looks great.
Sorry, but why do you think gauze is better than foam style? I have no idea, just looking for opinion.
That increased filter size/surface area/volume has to help, too!!

I am no filter expert and didn't want the thread to become a Foam vs Gauze debate! I have been looking for along time for one and this does the trick nicely - I have always liked my K&N filters since my early days of Motocross and sand rails in the California deserts and wanted one for my S2000.

Is the diameter of the filter at it's widest point bigger than the Comptech?

If it is....it won't fit with the cover on. The Comptech filter is almost flush with the top cover when it's screwed down. Any filter wider in diameter will not fit.

Can you confirm?...

Looks good though..

My cover fit just fine look at the 3rd pic of the flanges - the widest part is the same size!

Thanks for posting this up...I too prefer gauze filters to foam ones, and I've also been looking around for a K&N which would fit...
