AFI Turbo Build Setup
Working on a Turbo build for my car. I have a 2002 AP1.
My goals would be 400+ WHP under 13PSI I'm going to tune by gear and not pass 13 PSI as my final boost setting. What I decide on for 1st gear 2nd gear 3rd gear isn't really determined yet. I'll have to talk to a tuner about that and figure the final details out on tune day I guess. I also want to aim for 600 WHP in the future when I get pistons and anything else required to run higher boost and not risk the motor. This car will also be my DD once finished.
What I have now:
-Bone Stock Motor
-2.5 Inch Intercooler piping
-600HP intercooler
-255
-AEM EMS
-AEM Wideband
-AEM Boost Gauge
What I want for sure:
-AFI Twin Scroll Manifold Kit https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...f=107&t=775553 I'm only buying his New products, the items I said I have already are installed on the car by previous owner from the previous turbo setup, which I'm selling anything I'm replacing.
-ID1000's
What I have no idea on:
-Turbo, I have no idea what I should get. I've been prowling around the FS section looking for something used. But I'm not sure if I should risk that just to save a few 100$.
-Is there a turbo I could get 400 WHP with and then use to get to 600 WHP?
-Should I get a smaller turbo for my 400 WHP setup then sell it and get a larger one for the 600 WHP setup?
-If I get a larger turbo easily capeable of 600 WHP will it create issues at 400 WHP?
-Basically what I'm asking is can I get a turbo to big I guess.
-With the AFI kit do I need a divided turbo only, or will undivided work just the same?
-What type of bearings work best with which setup, or is bearings just an issue of how long the turbo will last and perform well?
-Will only certain turbos line up with that manifold and my piping or are all turbos equiped with a standard attachment shape/size?
Just looking at the garret turbo site they have 10 different models of each turbo GT30/GT35 each had several. I don't know what the difference is. I don't want to do this wrong and have to do anything twice. I want to order parts once and be done with this. I'm willing to spend money, just not waste money.
I know, a whole lot of questions, and any input will be appreciated, I'm getting ready to start ordering parts and I need to figure out what I'm getting. This is my first turbo car obviously.

I would ask yourself why you want 600whp first. This going to be a track car , a weekend warrior or a bragging match on a local forum ? Figure that out and you should be able to plan the build a little better.
Also if you still want those injectors let me know before tommorow afternoon as there is other intrested members

Your cold side of your intercooler piping isn't going to work with this setup. You will need to purchase the cold side piping from them or have it dabbed up. A 35r will work perfect for what you want or you can get a 6262, precision is now offering divided housing for those. Your bearing question is basically your asking ball bearing bs journal bearing, don't worry ab what you need for this untill you decide on your turbo, you may or may not need to run water lines depending on which turbo you decide with. Both of the turbos I listed will work fine for your goals. The more popular 35r model is the "3582". I believe the AFI manifold is a t4 footprint, if that's correct then you'll need a t4 housing. I'm not sure if they offer the t3/t4 manifold or not. Haven't seen to many of there kits. Wasn't there a couple of people with fitment problems on the afi kits?
I think what you need to do is hop off the FI section for a minute. Look at your car and decide what you want to do with it. How much downtime you can afford and what your knowledge base is. I feel you got the car and you have all this info in front of you and you are undecided which leads to unhappy end result for you. Then of course you will be at the same spot you are now with what you feel was a build that was thrown together. You have been given alot of useful information and just the fact you keep going opposite of what people are saying which leads me to believe you might want to just take a step back and let everything soak in.

You just changed your mind from na to turbo again, and now you want one of the kits that is going to involve extensive work to get to fit right?

The AFI mani I have for sale was ordered with a T4 turbo flange. My original intention
before deciding to sell it was to run a gt3076 with a divided 1.06 a/r housing with the intention
of making mid 400's. Coming from a turbo RSX with a greddy kit, I like fast spool and dont care
about top end numbers too much.
To avoid the hassle of running water lines I would recommend a precision journal bearing
turbo. It's really up to you on the size. If you dont care too much about spool up, buy the bigger
turbo capable of 600hp and run low boost, then turn it up when you build your motor.
