Is this AFR too lean for idle?
The bottom gauge is the AFR gauge and the top is the serial gauge. The AFR is connected to the ems which then outputs to the serial gauge. This is idling but they don't read the same. I'm not sure if this is too lean.

Assuming the gauge is correct yes that's lean. Recall 14.7 is Stoich
Then again under idle load it still could be deemed "safe" depending on which is accurate.

That's too lean 17. The AFR gauge is reading correctly. The serial gauge is reading what your EMS is seeing. It is way off, and may effect your tune if you have O2 feedback on. You need to adjust the O2 calibration in the EMS software to match the AFR gauge.
What AEM EMS version are you running?

By surging, do you mean revving up and down? If yes, then yes after it reaches 190 on my engine temp.
And I just read the AEM forum post yesterday but haven't had a chance to change the calibration. I did look at my tune and noticed that O2 feedback is not turned on. I have a 1052 non-UEGO, which I'm guessing is one of the last models because it is black.
