Default another krankvent question

When using krankvents do you use the stock pcv valve or a gutted valve? Curious if it makes a difference.

BTW ... you may want to inspect your krankvents periodically. The one on my PCV line failed and caused significant pressure in the crankcase during a dyno session. It had been on my car for six months and was installed correctly. When I removed the krankvent, air flowed both ways and you could see through the valve. The cause of the failure is unknown. ET replaced the valve and said that an intake backfire could generate enough pressure to cause valve failure.

Either way will work, but you will get a better vacuum if you gut it.

Yeah I gutted mine as well. However, I dont understand how your krank vent can fail. Those things are good to like 50psi.

The person that I spoke with at ET Performance said that a manifold backfire could generate as much as 100 psi and could cause a failure. Once in a blue moon on startup I have an explosion in the combustion chamber from unburnt fuel ... not sure how much pressure this generates.

Other than that I am not sure how the krankvent failed.

That is correct and that can cause them to fail inside. It does not need to be a gutted PCV but it would be good if you did gut it out.

BTW, all of my customers that purchase a krank vent from me this year will have some updates to it. I will list them all in a seperate thread. The ones I've sold have already been the updated units. They also have a arrow sticker placed on them now so there is really no way you can install them wrong.

The mechanism inside is just a tad bit tougher to keep them from failing even if there's a sudden combustion on the intake side. It doesn't really affect anyone at all really. If yours ever fail they can easily be upgraded when repaired.
