Wow, sooo many opnions
First I would look for an oil with ZDDP which is a friction modifier that is not easily found in the US due to crappy legislation.
Second, if you are running higher temps then you will want to go from 30w to 40w to maintain the propoer viscosity when heated.
Personally I prefere Mobile 0w-40 or Carstrol 0w-30 b/c they have ZDDP, and work great in a climate like ours with subzero and 100F days.
Here this should explain things a bit better.

some of the diesel oils have ZDDP as well. The whole issue with ZDDP was with burning out catalytic converters prematurely.

i personally think many different oils can be used...
i have used Castrol GTX with ZERO oiling issues... if i were to use synthetic i would use Castol Syntec for sure or Amsoil....
prime example is Rob!'s car, he used the bulk oil that was used at his Lexus dealership, and his car had ~127k miles on it and made 772whp out of a bone stock (3mm HG) motor, his car proves a point to me.....

BTW, did Rob! keep his at 772 whp on the street all the time or was that just for a dyno pull? That will show the true strength of the bottom end. I keep mine at 650 whp all the time. What you see on my dyno pull is what I run around on.

where does everyone buy Amsoil @
I am a preferred customer and you can become one too for $20 a year and you save 25-40% on all items. I get a case of 12 qts of Synthetic premuim 10w40 shipped to my house for about $90 which saves me about $35 off the regular price.

^^I agree that its very impressive and I'm in no way downing him at all. I'd just like to know if he only did it for a dyno pull or kept it this way on the street. That will let us know if the stock block can handle it for a while. Maybe he can chime in on this.

with this being said, i dont think i would push the stock block over 700whp, not saying the block cant do it (because we have seen it done) but its stock, and everything does surely has a breaking point, which is only a matter of time till it shows itself.... as long as you drive it normally with the occasional "spirited" driving, i think the motor will last long at the 600-700whp level, but the rest of the drivetrain is a different story lol....
I feel the same way.
I plan on pushing it to about 700 whp on e85 and leaving it there if it seems safe enough. I also just drive it normal and only get on it occasionally. Beating on the car all the time will definitely wear on things faster.
Sorry for the thread jack......Back on topic.
