Default Berk HFC in a high output applicatiion

Hello all,
I had my mind set on buying a Berk HFC, but I recently noticed some of you had the cat fail.

Was the failure due to using a 2-step or very high revlimiter? Does it fail due to the added exhaust CFMs from a boosted application? Was there a Berk recall and/or does it even fail?

With-in the next few days I am looking to buy either the Berk HFC or a test pipe. Thing is, I'd rather go with the TP if the HFC has a high probability of failing. On the other hand, I perfer the HFC only because I dont want to deal with any CEL poopoo with my 08, which apparently is troublesome.

Cat is for the following application: AP2/ SOS stage 2 @ 14psi / J's Racing header/ stock exhaust.

Thanks, Voya

The cat will not survive. The CEL can be avoided with settings being changed in Flashpro (if you have it). Otherwise a CEL fix can be used, I believe Berk sells test pipes with CEL fixes in them.

Screw the cat. Test pipe is the way to go.

I know, right? I would've sold you a real 3"one for less than that.

I used to think the same back in the day and welded my own TP with a pipe and fanges. Times have changed over the years. If you have told a cashier he can keep the 23 cents, I'm sure someone from the trailers would think you were crazy. Even though I have just a few posts, I have one where I explain some of my history. With that history in mind, I am done with "wrenching" as it is not worth my time anymore. On the side note, I dont trust others work, so I still end up wrenching. I feel like I am in a never ending cycle of wrenching till arthritus gets the best of me.

Yeah my Berk HFC failed. Cat material broke off and rotated itself sideways in the pipe blocking exhaust flow
