Default Best Turbo for 450 to 550 range

What's going on everyone? Going onto my third setup now and want to do it right. Had an SOS kit and didn't care for the powerband even with a smaller pulley. Had a 60-1 trim turbo gsr hatch and loved the spool of a turbo. Bought a kit from a local guy and should of asked questions but wasn't willing to remove my cross member. I decided to sell that kit. Now I have a Sheepy sidewinder kit minus the wastegate and turbo. This car will be used as my weekend warrior since I have a daily. I would like to take it to the track once awhile. The manifold is a V band and all ready have a 3 inch downpipe that came with the kit. Any advice is appreciative.

PS keep leaning towards a 6262 billet series but open to ideas.

Your options are going to be limited by that vband hotside.

I'd be looking @ something like a GTX35R, anything to stay away from Precision IMO

Pass I would think that a 5858 would hold me back if I ever want more then pump can give me.

Why dislike for precision?

Now I'm not going to turn your thread into a shit storm, because people have debated (argued) this on more than one occasion on this forum, and plenty of other places around the web.

What I will do, is provide my OPINION. I have personally had nothing but poor experiences with the precision turbos I have owned. The whole mess they got into with Garrett was really their downfall IMO. I see nothing but failure after failure, not only with the local cars I work on, but scattered about this forum as well. They aren't what they used to be in terms of longevity and quality, especially when compared to something like a Borg or Garrett.

There's a reason places like Evans, and Full-Race no longer recommend them to customers...

^^ thanks illstrolla your opinion has been noted. Never ran a percision turbo but my garret lasted 20000 miles till I sold it and lasted my friend another year till he sold it.

For your 450-550 goal I would say a GTX3076 .82 AR T3 is perfect. I have a V-Band Flanged GT3076 .63 and made 424pump and 507race with evans and that was the limit. A GTX30 will have no problem making mid-high 500`s and be much more responsive than its competition. But your gonna pay to play... If you dont wanna spend that much my second choice would be a Borg Warner s200 series or small s300 series turbo. The Borg FMW wheel is a great turbo but to big and laggy for what you want.

Since you have sheepy making a custom manifold see if you could get a borg warner efr series. Have heard nothing but amazing things about them. And also you wont have to buy a boost solenoid, bov, or wastegate since its intragated in the EFR series.

With that said I suggest anything besides a precision/comp/or holset turbo

i spoke to a friend who owns a shop and sells precisions about what he thinks about the precision failure issues, he said its the journal bearing precisions that fail a lot more than the ball bearing ones, he said the ball bearing units are solid and have been on par with the other companys.

I also recommend to stay away from precision because it seem that their turbos do not last. I only run Garrett turbos and they always late 100,000+ miles.

For your power goals of 450hp-550whp it depends on the type of fuel you will be running.

If that goal is with e85 or race gas then the best turbo is a gtx3071r

If that goal is on straight 91/93 octane gas them your going to need a perfect engine/turbo setup with at least a gtx3576r or a gtx3582r.
