Default Build Thread

I mentioned in an earlier thread that I would be purchasing an S2000 soon for a build. Well I was lucky enough to be able to buy my old car back. Ill be tearing it down and turning it into more of a drag car.

I've currently torn it down to a bare chassis and cut the front crash structure off. I've also removed the frame member in front of the motor which I will be replacing with tube.

This is what it used to look like.

That's an unusual bend on the upper left side of the cage. Looks like a clean slate! Engine/turbo plans?

That bend was there because I'm 6'2" and that was as far away as it could be while still fitting in my Spoon hardtop.

As for the engine/turbo setup I'm still pretty undecided. I'm probably going to start by putting a stock F20c in there and seeing what it takes to blow the thing up. I'm thinking something like a GTX42 for the turbo. I'm still totally undecided on the trans but the rear end will be a 4 link 8.8 setup.

That's a huge turbo! With regard to the bend in the cage, unfortunately I may have to do the same.

I'll probably be changing the cage quite a bit. My welding has come a long way since then so I kind of cringe when I look at some of the welds. I'm going to find a seat I like and mount it as low as possible and hopefully get at least some of that bend out but realistically it will still be there to some extent. The main hoop and peak of that bend were basically touching the hard top and my seat was already hard mounted no more than an inch off the floor.

Tonight I finished grinding off the spot welds where the front cross member was and started working on the rear of the car. I'll be updating the first post as I go to make it easier to follow but this wont make the cut until I finish cleaning it up tomorrow.
