Bulkhead fitting instead of tapping the oil pan?
I am installing a Vortech kit and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on using a bulkhead fitting in place of tapping the oil pan. I measured the thickness of the oil pan to be about 0.22 inches after grinding down the cooling fins. This would only allow for 3-4 threads worth of engagement. With this small amount of thread engaement into aluminum it seems that one small impact from anything would destroy the threads, leading to leaks.
I would think that using something like this with two brass washers would be much better.

My thoughts are 1.)One less step no tapping, 2.)Better seal, 3.) More robust since the nut and washer will spread the load over a larger area.

Consider welding if you are concerned about thread engagement. Bulkhead fittings are designed for smooth parallel surfaces.

By welding do you mean to weld the fitting to the pan or add more metal to the pan so that there is more thread engagement?

I've been thinking about welding one of these oil baffles for the extra insurance.

I'm debating to trim an inch off where the AN fitting is welded... or if it will even make a difference...
