Are cams worth it?

Default Are cams worth it?

I have seen a lot of controversy on weather or not cams make power on the s2000. Does anyone have any numbers on what gains have been made with cams? I have seen claims of 50 to 60 whp. I have only seen one graph from searching.

thanks

search skunk2 vs bc2 there is a graph vs stock. Skunk2 makes the most top end,bc2 makes the most mid range, theg both blow ap2 cams out of the water

What about blowing the AP1 cams out of the water?

Ive got bc2, so ill let you know. But as with ANY cams, its not worth the money unless you plan on taking the time to degree them in and find out what works best on the dyno. Every motor is different.

No it’s now worth it. There’s a reason why most s2000 700whp and under all run stock cams.

I've read ap2 exhaust with ap1 intake cams are best combo for forced induction. Exact specs/proof/dynocharts/videos are all hard to dig up. Feels like people find what works and then are too lazy to share back with community

we have high and low cam lobes a.k.a. vtec. Ive been trying to figure out if any company keeps oem low cam lobes oem and makes high cam lobes more aggressive only giving us the best of both worlds.

Turbo and supercharger cams have different timing that NA cams. Less overlap for example. Not sure what is best here. It is hard to read K24 specs, the engine most similar since they have variable intake timing. Only a few others have the Honda VTEC roller, effectively a roller cam allowing much more aggressive cam timing (ramp, total lift). Many others (2JZ, 4G63, V35DE, etc.) are flat tappet designs. Overall, I believe that makes them a bit smaller in duration with possibly a more aggressive exhaust opening.

I was thinking of trying the ferrea vtec killer cams. That would be my only mod that would affect driveability. Keeping soft suspension/oem throttle body and intake manifold/perfectly idling 1300cc injectors with e85 and oem mufflers, all that would help absorb some of the lumpy idle quality of a vtec killer cam. All vtec killer cars ive seen go full billet engine mounts/super stiff suspension/open exhaust/2000cc or bigger horrible idle injectors/aggresive clutch/70mm plus sized throttle body and huge intake manifolds and that really makes the car unstreetable. But ive yet to see a dyno graph of a vtec killer set up to get an idea of how much they affect everyday street driveability.
