Car is knocking..what to check for?
hey soo everything is working on the turbo however,
im gettiing engine knock at around 7100 rpm..Im making 250-260whp but the car is knocking ...my tuner says he can play with the timing more to make more power but the knock becomes more substantial...Im running the greddy kit at factory 7lbs...I dont understand why its doing that..the car has potential to make power but we can't due to the knock ( rather be safe than sorry).
We checked spark plugs and they seem to be fine no signs of knock and they are one step colder... 91 gas is in the tank as well.. Now my tuner said to drive the car just dont go over 7000rpm for now and bring it back with 94 gas..I don't think that would help much..He supposed to be a good tuner locally but maybe something just isnt right im not too sure

Do you have a competent tuner?
Is your timing ramping up and not just a flat line of a given timing number?
You need to start with a low timing on full boost hit, maybe around 10 deg on 7 psi of boost. Then it should slowly go up as rpm goes up and hold peak timing of around 16 deg from about 7500 rpm to 9000 rpm. Thats how a safe timing map is supposed to be. I've seen some morons set the timing at like 16 deg from full boost hit of 15 psi at 5000 rpm and hold there all the way to 9000 rpm and they could never figure out why they kept popping the motor and HG's. And this was from a tuner that was supposed to know his shit and many people know his name but I wont throw that in here.

damn........ I am at 19-20 degrees of timing up high, but running a 70/30 mix of Meth to water, so hopefully it's not too agressive
i run 18 at 10psi at 8400 and 20 degrees on meth at 8400.
you need to ask what exactly the tuner is seeing. is he seeing knock voltage or actual full on knock?
as revs rise, theres gonna be more noise and its not uncommon to see 2-2.5 volts in the upper end of the rpm range.

Yea im going back to the tuner on saturday.. i don't understand why its knocking tho im only running like 6-7 lbs doesnt make sense..
At 6lbs at 7200 rpm it starts to knock so we cant up the boost to 10lbs because rthen it would knock earlier

ive always tuned with "pull a degree of timing per pound of boost increased". so at about 15 psi, you should be around 15 degrees.
