Easiest way to get the hose on the sleeve is to put the sleeve in the vise and slide the hose onto the sleeve. If you try to put the sleeve onto the hose by hand, your hands will be shot by the time you are done.

I use some vasoline, and it slides right in I keep a small container in the garage, helps with vac lines and what not.

Exactly.

Wrap fitting in blue painters tape.

Set in vice

Coat inside of an rubber with the slippery stuff.

Screw in.

Tighten down

Profit.
