Default CC pressure plate w/ OEM friction disc

Hey guys,

Simple question I guess... Everyone runs the ACT HD pressure plate with the OEM friction disc for extra grabbing power and no clutch buzz that is generally associated with aftermarket friction discs. Can you do the same thing with a Competition Clutch pressure plate? My power goals are modest; 350-380 HP on a Comptech kit, Novi 1220, 11-12 PSI.

Just looking for alternative options as the ACT HD pressure plate has been on back order now for over a month... I'm getting ancy.

Does SOS sell just the pressure plate from their clutch kit? I don't need a new friction disc.

Yea, you should be able to run the cc pressure plate. I know of one member doing the same, although its holding capacity I have no idea.

Thanks James. Anyone else have experience with this and can comment on the holding power? I wouldn't expect my torque to exceed 225 ft-lbs.

FYI - I called SOS yesterday and the guy on the phone (can't remember his name) told me that you CAN'T buy just the pressure plate from their sport clutch kit by itself, which I think is crock. He told me to email Chris to get his thoughts on it.

Lol, they won't sell individual pieces of their sc kit either from what I hear.

I've emailed Chris about it; they are an excellent company from all my dealings with them and I'm sure 99% of people on this site would agree with me. We'll see what he says.

You cannot use a stage 4 CC pressure plate with a OEM disc and expect the same "hp holding levels." The CC setup gains its holding pressure by the material used on the disc, not the clamping pressure of the PP.

Right, I was thinking more of the "Stage 2" CC pressure plate which comes with a higher duty PP and an "OEM-like" disc. Just subbing out their "OEM-like" disc with a Honda disc. My power goals are relatively low. I know I don't want clutch buzz (My AP1 used to have the original disc which buzzed and I hated it) but I obviously don't want it to slip. Just looking for a substitute for the ACT HD pressure plate to use with the OEM Honda friction disc.

I'm trying this with the SPEC stage 2 PP. I had their full clutch, but the clutch buzz drove me nuts. So far, the OEM disc seems to be holding, but I won't know for sure until I'm fully tuned and putting down real power.

Well supposedly my ACT pressure plate finally shipped out on Friday just when I was giving up, so I guess this is a moot point for me. But good to hear that there are possible replacements.

I have the same clutch and was thinking about doing this also. Is there any more buzz? How does the clutch feel, is it less aggressive?
