Clogged in-tank fuel filter?
In Black Nugget's build-up thread, a member/owner mentioned the possible things that can happen to gas if it stays stagnant for too long. It prompted my response:
How viable is this scenario? My car was down for about 7 months and garaged. I do remember the tuner asking if I had the stock pump. I remember him saying that he had to up the fuel pressure more than normal. Although a different sc'er, he had just done NO S8NT's motor a week prior- same injectors, same fuel pump, same EMS.
Thanks for any input. The only other change that I induced during this time was changing the gap from .026 to .033. Plugs are the usual 7173's. Peak boost has remained fairly constant with a slight increase.
I understand the point and it may lead to some reasoning for why I'm running so rich. Perhaps the fuel stayed in the tank for so long uncirculated that it clogged the in-tank filter to the point where it would allow some gas to pass(
), but not in its normal capacity.
Once I started going through a couple of tanks, it flushed itself and now I don't need to have the fuel pressure regulator so bumped up. It would be really neat if this theory had any validity and could explain my current woes under WOT. Under closed-loop conditions, I'm getting great fuel economy.

So no one has an opinion as to whether or not sediments from gasoline sitting stagnant for seven months could possibly clog the in-tank fuel filter, if only temporarily?
