Default Cold Air Intake on a Turbo

Although my car is running fine, I decided to make some improvements on the intake side. On my original installation the intake air filter was located right behind the radiator where it could suck up a lot of hot air. It is now located in the space behind the right bumper. Here are some pictures.

And in case you are wondering, yes, this made a big change in the tuning. The car runs much richer now, so I'm in the process of re-tuning the EMS.

Updated on 10/22/05: I dyno'd the car yesterday with the new intake and here are thew results:

The first one was on 93 octane and 17.5 psi as read off the EMS datalog.

The second one was with a mixture of about 4 gallons of 93 octane and 2 gallons of methanol for an estimated 100 octane mixture. Also increased the boost to 20 psi and added 2 degrees to the top end timing. As you can see from the A/F ratio, the injectors were maxing out at over 90%.

It appears that after driving the intercooler pipe will heat up and radiate to the intake. Have you considered heat shielding it somehow?

I agree. The turbo seems to spool up a lot quicker now. Also, I have a temp sensor on the intake side of the intercooler and I'm seeing about a 45 degree F temp drop on the intake side from what I had before. Another surprise is the blowoff valve is a lot louder. I'm not sure that's a good thing though - I'd prefer it to be quiet even though it does sound neet.

How is the bend before it goes down to the fender? I can't tell if it's pinched in the picture or not...
Why would it run richer? I'm sure this is an obvious answer, but I'm not finding it. Hehe, sorry.

It's a 90 degree and no, its not pinched. As to why the MAP became soo rich I can't answer. It just did. I've got it tuned back to normal now and will have it on the dyno next week. I'll post the results.

Looking for a final solution on a CAI my self, I would like to ask you if the longer intake tubing does not affect the throttle response or spool up in a negative way. I am still messing with the stock air box tho'

That looks great. Is that a 4" pipe, 3" pipe, or combination of the two?

The before picture is 4". The after is all 3".

Hmm nice! A recent dyno had me at 170degrees in the engine bay. I think this would help a LOT.

Off topic but I notice you have a check valve and it says you have a 2qt accusump in your signature. At what pressure are you setting it off (which control valve did you get)? I'd like to have it to preoil and also if something fails and oil pressures drop, but I definitely dont want it squirting out when I'm idle at a light.

I have the electric valve on the Accusump and it's set for slightly less than 30 psi. It works great at pre-oiling before starting. If you didn't see my prior post on the subject, here is a picture of where I mounted the Accusump:
