comptech question?
i have a 2002 ap1, no difficulties at all. i tried to custom fit the air box but after two days of trying to fit it i gave up. the air box isn't necessary though. i have a used old comptech non-ac kit with the pre-esm kit that used a check valve. if you do get a kit with the esm i'd just get the "missing link" by synapse (i got mine through nipponpower.com in miami) it was very cheap i want to say $50 or so versus $150 for an esm. all you do is install it between the map sensor and the throttle body and that's it. the hardest part i had was removing the crank pulley. some say the fuel pump is hard but it was easy for me. i did the install 100% myself.
Make sure you check the air fuel ratios once the kit is installed. With an AP2 kit on an AP1 you'll be running a little more boost than the kit is intended to run, since the AP2 pulley is a bit smaller (it'll be like 6psi instead of 5psi). You'll need to adjust the fuel pressure regulator to give you a little more gas or the car will run lean.
I've got an extra stock AP1 pulley. If you'll send $10 to cover shipping I can send it to you if you want to run stock boost.

you might as well run the AP2 pulley on the AP1, it'll give you the max boost you can run without having to get injectors or real engine management.
