Heck with time slips, how about some dyno plots? A bit less driver-influenced.

Awesome thread. Just a little, slightly off topic observation from me...............nitrous on a s2000 will do a LOT for the car, because it will spike the torque curve immediately. Forget how much hp it adds to the wheels..see what happens to the torque curve when under spray, and you will see why an s2k on nitrous will pull away much harder than a supercharged s2k. of course, once the sc'd car is into boost, it will proabbly gain back ground hand over fist, but I understand what the guy means when he says he left an sc s2k "standing still".

I used to have a supercharged taurus sho that made over 370fwhp, and my friend with a 55 shot on his lightly modded sho (200fwhp+55shot) made almost exactly as much tq as me, and much lower in the rev range.

hp wins bragging rights, but its the tq thats king of the 1/4.

my 2 cents.

No.

Torque is static meaning it is a measurement when nothing is moving (like a torque wrench). You can have torque out the wazzoo and little HP, so you get little accelleration. If torque was "king of the 1/4" everybody would be running Cummins Diesels. If torque is king, how come a Z3 M Roadster with 50% more torque than an S2000 has almost identical 0-60 and 1/4 mile times?

What people miss in the whole "torque vs HP" argument is that when you add torque, you add HP, and it's the HP that makes the car go faster.

BTW - I had a 50-shot nitrous for a year, and just went to a Comptech SC. For the bucks nitrous is hard to beat - just ask half the guys in the Atlanta club - many of them got "test drives". But after having the SC, I'd never go back.

Modifry, my point exactly......people become obsessed with adding hp. You're right.....add tq and you will also add hp, but go for hp only mods, and it wont do anything for you when you stand on it in second at 20mph.

And as a matter of fact, those cummins diesels are stupid fast in the 1/4!! Ive seen videos of duallys running 13s!!!!!

I love my S the way it is. I dont mind winding it out at all. But Im sure a little more tq lower down would not go amiss. Thats why Im digging through all the blower threads, trying to see which of the two will produce more area under the curve.

And youre right about going easy on the hardware. But I think neither the comptech nor vortech would be very hard on the pieces (clutch excluded) as long as you didnt abuse the car........power delivery seems to be fairly linear, from what I see.

100% correct. I had a 100shot on my s2000. Spray below 5 grand and you barely move... (unless in first gear of course).. I have raced high 12 sec car (12.8 +) while squeezing 100 and have beaten them by a cpl cars.. not very informative.. but true. I remember a member with a 100 direct shot running 12.72... which will completely bitch any comptech/vortech supercharged s2..

let the flames and reliability posts start here..
