Default Comptech SC w/ aftercooler bogging

i was driving back home in stop and go traffic today. it was in the low 90s.

i know how the car bogs when sitting in stop and go traffic sometimes even when stock. at low RPMs. accelerating from a stop.

i noticed the same behavior now SCed with aftercooler (comptech), perhaps a bit more frequent during this commute back home than when stock. also, when going WOT, i noticed less power esp when in VTEC.

Is this a common thing? i was figuring since I have the aftercooler, it'd get rid of any heat soak issues. maybe not?

thoughts?

In stop and go traffic, your A/C can only cool the intake charge down to the temp of the air that goes through the radiator (for the A/C). In fact, when just inching along in a traffic jam, there is minimal air going through it till the main rad fan kicks in and then it only draws in street level air which is quite hot in that kind of traffic. Having an A/C doesn't make the car immune to heat soak. Having a S/C in those conditions may even be worse than before as the engine is now also subjected to the parasitic draw of the blower at near idle speeds. Even when the fan kicks in or when you do finally get going, it'll take some time for the A/C rad to cool down from all the heat it's picked up.

Ive been experiencing the same bog in stop and go traffic ever since I got the car. I wrote about this in the past, but here is the general rule to minimize bog.

Speeds and gear to avoid.

1st, 4MPH
2nd, 8MPH
3rd, 12MPH

These are the speeds that the cut off occur which maximizes the bogging effect.

Supercharged now?

Initially my fuel pressure went up by ~8-10psi with the upgraded fuel pump and stock fuel pressure regulator.

If you get an adjustable 1:1 regulator and set the fuel pressure back down ~44psi at idle, you'll get better response and increased downshifting drivability of the N/A. After I got supercharged, downshifting is not the same anymore.

I used to have the same issue and could not figure out why. Soldered my ESM connection and have been driving the car all week at above 90 degree weather + chicago traffic with no problem. Its worth the try and it couldn't hurt.

Shad from Comptech does not recommend soldering the connections.

I had the same problem too. I soldered the ESM connections and also replaced the map sensor. That seemed to fix the bogging.

Wouldnt a Hondata or aftermarket Fan switch/Thermostat help?

my problem was - it wasn't getting enough voltage to the MAP sensor. Soldering fixed that.
